Hey everyone So yesterday, my younger sister stumbled across some porn on the iPod my siblings and I share. I don't know what she was looking at but she said that she wanted to look at breast cancer. It most likely isn't her fault if that is the case. The internet is loaded with a lot of inappropriate stuff, even if you're looking for something medical because you're curious, you'll find porn or some weird content. Anyway, my mother found out because she looked at the history and it had to be my sister because she had the iPod the entire day. So my mother decided to put parental settings on the iPod and the iPad we also have. Basically, all porn is blocked (obviously). Then Twitter is also blocked and some YouTube videos are blocked. I think Tumblr is also blocked. In order to unblock them, we would have to ask our mother for the password. Another thing is that we can't use private browser or clear the history anymore. There is still a way you can delete certain things from the history, but you can't clear the whole thing conveniently anymore. The problem here is that I would usually use the iPad to go onto EC. My mother doesn't support the community, and she is somewhat vocal about it. I used to use another LGBTQ+ forum and she found out, and basically got angry and accused me of numerous things. I enjoy using EC, and I was able to hide it a bit more with the iPad because I could private browse or just delete the history later. Another huge problem...EC is actually blocked too. I think it's because of the sexual health forum, but I'm not sure. I'm not going to ask my mother to unblock it unless I want another huge fight and more conflict, which I don't. I can still use EC on my family's computer, but that probably means that it will be easier to see what I'm doing and it's less convenient overall because I have to stay and sit in one room. I feel like I'll probably here on here less because of that, which sucks because I like it here and I actually want to log in more to increase my chances of becoming a full member, which I signed up for So yeah, that's about it. I still want to go on here and I will, but I don't know how often and if I can do it as easily. I know I'm not that important, it's not like anyone will actually be affected by this. But I'm kind of bummed out about it and wanted to share.
That's really unfortunate. Can you use a computer at the public library or a similar resource to access EC? I really hate the idea of someone being cut off from a supportive community because of disapproving family. Isolation isn't good.
If you can find out which blocking software your mom is using, let us know and we can contact the company and try to get unblocked from their central registry. We are miscatgorized with porn sites in some cases but we've had some success in getting the parental control services to recognize that we aren't porn.
Wow I can't believe parents actually do these things. I mean "parental settings"... really? Is this an actual thing? It should be illegal to do such things. Puuuh, parental settings... more like censorship + indoctrination settings. I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope you can find a way to stay on EC. Being isolated like that is never a good thing.

Thanks everyone. And yeah, the parental settings thing is a HUGE pain. Everything is blocked basically. Google is blocked, YouTube is blocked, Wikipedia is blocked, a ton of safe websites are now blocked. It's incredibly annoying. I can use the computer to go on EC, it's not a big deal. It's just more of a hassle and it increases my chances of getting caught :/
Well, it's a bit unlucky, is there any way you can buy your own computer, for me parental controls started blocking everything and so my dad turned it off. Also do you have a smartphone that you own because you can access EC with mobile data and parental controls only truly applies to WIFI.
