i was texting my ex, asking if he wanted to meet up. he just kinda said maybe, so i was in town anyways, and texted to ask if he wanted to meet up.

    I received this text:

"You can hint all you want and no offence but in this stage of the game you'll be lucky if i'll even go down stairs :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:"

    I thought he'd completely misunderstood.
Hint all you want; I figured he thought I was still trying to get back with him. After all, I'd not been hinting that I wanted to meet up, it was really a fairly plain yes or no question.
This stage of the game... who uses that just to describe the time of the day?
And go downstairs? He lives in a bungalow, so I kinda assumed the... other meaning.

I sent a text back rather baffled and a bit hurt that he thought I was just trying to meet up for sex...

He pointed out that actually, he's upstairs at his friend James' house, and is feeling too lazy to come downstairs, let alone out and it's too late in the evening to be meeting up. And sounded a little pissed off at me. So now I'm kinda glum. =/

I need to work out how to stop misunderstanding people. He told me that I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but really... the meaning seemed pretty plain to me. =(

I probably would have thought the same thing you did. It is hard to tell what people mean in a text.

When I read his response I thought the same thing you did.
    That's crazy and rude.

He should be a little more understanding because:
    1.) harmless misunderstanding
    2.) communication via text message

  4. That's one thing I hate about written English. So much meaning is lost with the lack of inflection and/or facial or physical clues about what a person means.

Did you tell him that you just misread the text?

Yes, i would have probably understood it that way too. This is why i prefer to call people, works out more expensive but at least your speaking to a human!

I think we all got the same message when we read the response...

So, it was a missunderstanding, it's not like a HUGE one...

I hope he comes to his senses...
