Default Girls gamers

Dear girls of EC I was wondering if you could shead some light on something. My sexist brothers think that women cannot be as skilled as them at any given video game. Oh coarse I had to put my two sense in and say that what they said was untrue and just sexist, then one of them replied, "It's not sexist it's just true" . What are your thoughts on this? Can't woman be just as skilled at a video game as my idiot brothers? Is there any scientific logic behind their reasoning?

Of course they can. My sister is really good at video games, she loves them. Even if she doesn't exactly know the game, she ends up helping me if I get stuck at a certain point. My mom also plays video games all the time.

Yes, we can be just as skilled as men at video games. I've been playing video games since I was 7 years old, and have won or placed highly in virtually every Super Smash Bros tournament I've ever played in. I've also been competitive with the guys I used to work with at Halo, played the Command and Conquer games at LANs in college, used to speed-run the Metroid games and used to be a hardcore raider in WoW (though that requires more no-lifing than skill!). That said, I don't play much of anything at the moment due to focusing on study rather than gaming this year.

There is no particular reason why women should be weaker at video games than men, apart from interest. However sometimes the general attitudes among male gamers can contribute to putting women off playing certain games - I haven't played Halo online since shortly after Halo 2 came out, I didn't play for long because I was getting sick of being ganged up on every time I'd put my headset on and speak. FPS players can be among the worst for sexist/racist/homophobic attitudes though.

Ya supersmashbros! thats my favorite game ever(I rock as Shiek :P) My brothers are big halo fans and they are scary good I would love to see them get their s kicked by a girl so that I could rub it their faces that I was right. I heard somewhere that video games effect the reward center of the male brains more than in female brains but I've always been horrible at video games.

I've heard that from a lot of people that's why I don't play any games online. I can't deal with the ignorance of a lot of the people. Also, (as crazy as it might seem) there's definitely the "You must a lesbian if you like video games and you're a girl" thing floating around. It's stupid as anything.

I've been playing as Kirby since SSB64, however I was really disappointed to see how much he was nerfed in Brawl. I like the Fire Emblem characters in Brawl though.

For the record, I prefer Melee to Brawl.

In answer to what Midnight Angel said - you get an especially large amount of crap if you are a woman playing a stereotypically male role in certain online games. I know that in WoW, as a tank, half the people i played with assumed I must have been a massive bull dyke or that I was really a man, because "girls can't tank at a T6 level". Another (female) friend of mine is majorly into Team Fortress 2, and she just doesn't speak at all because she likes to play as a pyro, and half the people she plays with just assume she's male.

I haven't been able to play much in a while, but I can rip into people in video games. That's always thrown people. Back in my Allied Assault days I always ranked up in the top couple of people. Pretty decent at Halo too. It was always funny anytime by younger brother had buddies spend the night. I would go in "Oh you boys mind if I play a round or two?" They would kind of laugh a bit and agree. Then I would crush them. hahaha Only my brother and his best friend knew the trouble that was coming. All those boys were strangely ok with getting beaten by a girl. On Xbox live however, those random internet guys would rather I be a 9 year old boy than a grown girl. Sad ego thing really. Thanks for sticking up for us, buddy.

I prefer classic to Melee, and Melee to Brawl (Classic char, Kirby. Meele char, Gannon. Brawl char, Pit.)

But anyways! Violent video-games generally appeal LESS to the average girl than guy. (the only violent game i like though is SSB) But, as always, there is never a set "girls do this guys do this" rule as we should all know by now from being on the site we are currently on! I know girls who play only war games, i know guys (like myself) who like sim games and music games more than violent games.

It seems like now is an amazing time for Video Games. The market is so wide now, you can get every time of video game you want. Guitar games, Cooking games, War games, Simulation games, Shopping games, Roleplaying games, Sport games, and just all around fun games like the ones you can find on the Wii. Video games to me seem like they now span EVERY market. There is not a single person, young or old, male or female, gay or straight, who cannot find a game they would like. So in short, screw whatever stereotype your brother is making cause its always going to have exceptions

My sister blitzes every game she picks up, even though she has very little function in one of her hands.

EXUSE ME.
I just happen to be awesome at video games. XD
I pwn at racing games, and i'm pretty good at platformers and adventure games, and games like Super Smash Bros. The ones I hate are shooting games, like Gears of War and Halo. They bore me.

But yeah, I know tons of female gamers who can beat the crap out of guys at video games.

That was my whole point. That women could be just as skilled at a video game.

Hahaha, I know. The indignation was directed at your brother, who made the original comment. XD My post was unclear. I wasn't mad at you ^.^ <3

I play WoW... and something was said not too long ago to me.

(To explain, I play female characters)

Leader: (Healer) was happy to play with you. She wants to group with you again sometime. I agree.
Me: Why exactly?
Leader: She's happy to finally meet another girl who can hold her own.

Yea... lol.

My sister plays though, and she's pretty great at it,

Hun, it's called chauvinism. Men think they're better than women at everything, including video games. It exists everywhere. Is there reason behind it? Some. Is it true? Usually not.
