Okay I'm curious as to what people read on EC treads. Do you?

On a tread you have average interest in
    a) read all the threads
    b) read the top page and the page you post to
    c) The top thread and just reply
    d) just skim threw them all
    e) Just reply
    f) Combination
    d) Other

I either skim or read, then post. But I often don't go back to the thread to read new replies.

Unless it's extremely long I usually read all the replies. Or I at least skim them. Depending on the thread sometimes after I post I stop reading it.

I try to read all of the replies because there's no sense in duplicating someone's answer. Or maybe the topic has evolved a bit based on replies. If there's say, 100 responses, no, I don't read every single reply.

I usually read the OP then the last page before I reply. But I also skim through the other replies looking for specific Members/Posters who I really think give good advice.

If I'm particularly interested or feel strongly about a topic, I read all the comments. You don't know, you might find someone to quote.

If it's a thread I'm really interested in or one that I started, then I'll check for new replies.

Basically, I usually read through everyone's replies before replying myself. But if there are several pages of replies then I just skim and post. The only exception to this would be posts where it isn't necessary to read the other posts (such as in Fun & Games or certain Chit Chat topics).

I try to read all of the replies as well so that I don't end up giving a duplicate answer or if someone has already covered the issue

Sometimes I'll read other people's replies but I normally don't go back to that thread after posting.

I usually read the previous replies to avoid saying something that's already been covered, and because what others have to say interests me , and I also go back after posting to read new replies.

Of course I do. I like to know others' thoughts on a subject, especially if those are the thoughts of a friend. It helps me know what other people are like and even some things I never would have guessed about them. :icon_wink

I usually skim everything that's been said, giving my full attention to the most interesting posts. You might learn something cool or at least find something to research. I read a lot more than I post. Sometimes I type out a post, and I end up thinking my post is a waste of time, so I delete my post. I've heard other members do something similar, so I don't feel weird about it. Hell, I was going to delete this post lol.

Even among "average interest" threads, there's quite a bit of variation.

    Before posting:

Sometimes, I'll read every reply, even if there are over 100...y'know, follow the conversation, as it were.

Always, I'll read every reply if there are under 20. Usually, I'll read every reply if there are under 60.

    After posting:

I'll keep and eye out to see if there are replies to my post. If the conversation up to that point was good (which is common), I'll also read other new posts (or if any catch my eye).

I am always leery of threads (like this one, honestly) that don't really inspire conversation. Things like "What did you have for dinner last night?", "Tell about your most interesting dream" or "Where all have you been in the US?" can be fun to reply to in a masturbatory sort of way...but also frustrating if you put any kind of thought into a reply, because it's extremely difficult to believe that anyone will ever read your post. I often wonder why such threads get posted, because I can't conceive that even the OP cares enough to read my post. BUT, in some cases (and this thread is an example) the value of replying, even if nobody ever reads or cares about what I say, is in having thought through the response and having put it into words.

I always skim the thread and I always read the first post. However, I do not always read every reply in detail. I do so on threads about topics I am very interested in, but can't say the same for every other thread that I reply to.

I read the majority of threads and replies here in chit chat and the physical health area. I will keep up with all replies in threads I have I posted in with the exception of "what are you thinking" because it is massive.

I pop into other areas, and I will help someone if they seem desperate. I certainly don't spend all day there though.

If I reply to a thread, I always read the posts in it. It shocks me how many people will just post and not bother to read what others have written (including, in many cases, additional information by the OP).

I usually skim read them - but it depends on who is posting and what is being posted. Sometimes I'll start reading a post and if I find it too long-winded and uninteresting, I'll move on - but if it catches my interest, I'll read every word.

I think it depends on how interested I am in the thread

Really, it depends for me. If it is a support thread, or another type of thread driven by discussion, then I will read the responses. If it is just a fun kind of thread like what are you thinking, I'll usually read the responses on that page.

I usually do, depending on the thread.

If its a question I usually just respond to the title directly, if its a subject or discussion I personally relate to then I look through the other posts. If one or more of them is interesting or stands out to me I'll probably reply to them =D
