The "It's get's better" project started five years ago with many many celebrities joining in and pushing the "It get's better " message .

The big question is how much of the "it get's better " project has PERSONALLY helped you?

Personally, it hasn't helped me any because I was never suicidal over being gay.

    How about you?

I'd say it helped a fair amount. The It Gets Better project came about around the time I was seriously struggling with my sexual orientation. I learned I was gay in last 2009, and the project got popular in 2010, which was really good timing. I was imagining suicide and thought about how great it would be to be free of a bleak future and bullying, but the project really helped give me hope.

I was coming of age right when the It Gets Better project was started, and this is from an old post I made about my reflections of my journery through 8th grade:

The IGBP didn't get rid of all of my internalized homophobia, but it did make me want to eventually come out as gay when I was older, and look at me now.

It helped me out a lot it really did. It gave me the courage to be strong and that's what I did and I'm very glad I live in a time where even though there may be hate in the world there is always some guidance.

    Not very much.

They don't pay my bills or wipe my tears. But if it has helped anybody, excellent, mission accomplished. Personally though, no, not very much.

Not at all here, but that's because it wasn't around when I came out, so it's hard to say. But I was really moody then, so I think I would have viewed it in a rather cynical fashion, given my overall personality.

I'm glad to see it has helped some; I wish there was a group that was into helping poor LGBT people financially, though, as so much of the It Get's Better brand of 'hope' seems to come from the idea of going to college and moving to a bigger city, both of which cost money that not everyone has, nor is it possible for everyone to do. So I like it overall, but wish it would touch on this very important aspect: class.

Meh, a little. It did introduce me to a lot of people, but other than that it hasn't done much.

A tiny bit. I mean it's a good sentiment. It can give people the idea that coming out makes everything better in solving problems or that over time people will change their minds. I have come to realize that some people will never change their minds about LGBT people. Somehow, there is this underlying belief within the community that if we just become better "apologists", then people will turn to our line of thinking and tolerance. For some people, they will never get it.

Like HP and Kaiser have said, great if it helps someone. However, for some people, it doesn't get better. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but that's just me.

I'm not into celebrity promotion because I always wonder if thay are trying to make themselves look good instead of helping the cause

Nope. Honestly I can't get behind anything that Dan Savage heads up.

Personally, not at all. I've heard about it, but I've never actually looked it up, so I only have a vague idea of what it's purpose is...? But if it's helping people, then great!

    Very much!

I remember watching, like, thousands of videos everyday. They really did help me a lot.

I guess not too terribly much. But I was reading the book the "It Gets Better" campaign had put out when I was first figuring out how I was going to come out to everyone. It did give me some comfort knowing that my situation could get better and there were people in a similar boat. But as far as the videos? Eh, not really.

I actually got really turned off by Kevin Rudd's contribution. I wondered how a heterosexual Prime Minister who had spent almost all of his career against marriage equality could possibly be truly behind me. That was in late 2011, the first time I was made aware of the campaign.

I also learnt about Dan Savage's horrendous attitudes last year or perhaps the year before, which made the movement seem really shallow to me. By that time, however, I was quite comfortable with my sexuality.

I was really uninspired by the campaign as it appeared to me.

I only saw a few videos but it didn't really help me... 5 years ago? I was 18 by then and had already accepted being gay, so people telling me things I already knew didn't help me.
