    Re: Did your parents ever ask you if you were gay pre-coming out?

    Not sure if you watch EastEnders, but around the time Johnny came out to Mick, I was watching it with my Mum and was acting all pro-gay, which is strange for me to do around my family openly. I'm usually a 'go for it if it makes you happy' around them and that's that. But anyway.. I was saying 'there's nothing wrong with being gay' to something my sister said, and my Mum turns round to me and says: 'You're not gay are you?' and I'm like 'err.. err.. n-no. Why would you say that?' and ended up going the colour of a beetroot and that was that. It wasn't mentioned again and I'm still not out to her. I think she's got an idea that I could be though and my (female) friend (who is the only friend my Mum knows) thinks she does know. We'll see.

    No, but I once had my dad when I brought home a (very short-lived) boyfriend say he was relieved because he was starting to wonder if I was a lesbian.

    Joke's on him, now, because his daughter son is a transguy. :rolleyes: Not that he knows that (hell, I didn't even know that at the time), because I can't come out to either of my parents yet.

    Half asked if I was gay, half told that I was. In a nasty way, I must add, though I think my crush was onto me in a positive way.

    Um, one time my mom and I were watching the Fault in our Stars about a year ago and we were talking while taking a bathroom break. She asked me if I liked boys and I was just said nonchalantly 'nah' and then she asked me (in a fairly accusatory tone) if I liked girls. I just said 'no' with slightly more vehemence than I did when she asked me about boys. She seemed to believe me and just was like: 'So you're just kinda not really into anyone, huh?' and I was like 'Nah, not really. Not yet.' I was never bugged about it again.

    Kind of? I mean, I haven't technically come out yet, only vaguely hinted to my family...but otherwise, yes. Both my best friend and my mother have asked if I was gay throughout the past three years, because I wasn't interested in relationships at all compared to most people.

    After I graduated from high school, my mother kept telling me I needed to look good in case I met someone, I told her I wasn't interested in women, so she asked if I was into boys, I said no with an annoyed tone. I then told her I was asexual. She pretty much kept pestering me with "oh you never know you might meet someone," I know she meant someone female from the way she said it.

    That is proof she doesn't listen very well to me.

    A couple of my family members suspected it, but they never asked me if I was.

    I think so, I'm not really sure?

    I was actually trying to come out to my mom at the time, so I was saying things like, "Sooo... what do you think about gay marriage?" And basically, things just went along like that. And then! She asked me (obviously), "So then, are you gay?"

    -- And ahh! I don't know. I just kinda panicked and lied out of impulse, "No nooo.. haha... I'm not! I mean... uh... no.." - and that was the end of that. After that, I didn't try to come out again, like, it's just really nerve wracking and ahhg. But hopefully in the future I'd be able to be, yeah? That's what I hope, at least.

    Nope--to the best of my recollection I've still never been asked if I'm gay and I've been out for 23 years.

    Nope. I always felt like it was hidden in plain sight, but no one ever asked until i told them.

    Before I came out to my parents, I used to ask them all sorts of questions. What they think about the LGBT+ community, what they would think if one of their children was gay or a lesbian, things like that. And of course, because my parents always assume that I have a personal connection to what interests me, they asked me if I was a lesbian. I just said "Nah", and we moved on :grin:

    More of a passing? Was in the car with my parents once, and they were talking about a les couple my father spotted. My mom went "Well we're not into checking out girls, right?" It was quite awkward.

    I got accused (by homophobes) of being a lesbian many, many, MANY times, and a lot of people just assumed that I was a lesbian XD;;;;

    Well, they were half right... XD;;;;

    Not that I remember. I did come out to mom as bi first and she said she wasn't surprised at all. Then I told her I'm gay and she was like 65wattdidyousay. Really? Yeah, mom. I like boys and girls annoy me. I'm never happy with them, which she knows since I talk to her about aaaaaaalmooooost everything. I love having girl friends, but girlfriends are a different story.
