I have always wondered: Why is techno and other types of electronic music associated with being gay? I have never understood this. I don't know where this stereotype came from. This is just something that I have been wondering about. Can anyone explain the origin of this stereotype?

Also, do you personally like electronic music?

I've never heard about the stereotype before. Now that I think about it, I actually do like techno and electronic music.

I go clubbing 1-2 times a week with friends (who are all straight). EDM isn't a "gay thing". That is unless everyone in the clubs I go to are closeted LGBT.

Maybe some of you have never heard of the stereotype, but I have.

I've never heard the stereotype, I like a few EDM songs but would not consider myself a fan. I have a couple DJ friends who play house/dub and they are both straight

I think they're just trying to insult Electronic music, because they don't like it. Some people can't resist making jokes out of names like Angerfist. If there's another reason, then I don't know. Even although I'm fond of Electronic music, I'm much more knowledgeable about Metal.

I never knew that stereotype  I started to love EDM recently, and nightcore and trance much before that. Interesting, but weird?

The gay club by me plays a mix of EDM and (sadly) top 40, while the other room plays Euro something or other.

I only go on gay night and goth night (basically straight industrial) so I wouldn't know.

EDM is just super upbeat and easy to dance to. I've never seen the association as a negative thing. Like, some of the straight people that go to gay night go because they think the music is better.
