I watched about half of it. Trump was more subdued than I thought he would be. Way too many candidates; I think that's not good for the party. The woman held her own. Tough cookie, but doesn't have the charisma a leader needs to get votes. Jeb looked awkward. I liked Christie, but thought he sure has changed his tune re. Obama. Went on the attack. I can't believe vaccinations are an election issue in this day and age! (Groan) There are a couple of good ones in the mix for the Republicans after all, but will one of the good guys get the nomination? I don't have a vote, so I'll stay out of it now.
I like Kasich, and that's about it. I'm watching the replay at 1 am. I wish someone just had the Kasich clips and nothing else. He's the only shred of humanity in the room and certainly the most compassionate one in the first debate.
The whole thing was an intellectual wasteland. Carly Fiorina has been getting attention lately, and to me, she comes across as incredibly pompous and arrogant, and that she has an inflated view of her own intelligence. This time around, I got more than a few bingos on my GOP Debate Buzzword Bingo Card.
I thought Rubio did alright. I hated the bantering between the candidates and just wanted them to answer the damn questions.
The numbers will drop around New Hampshire, if not Iowa. That's usually how it goes, and we'll be stuck with, and sick of, the last three or four. As for the debate itself, they're just talking to waste time. They look irritated and sound confused because they don't have a united backing, save maybe the anti-gay marriage crowds and hardcore-always-gonna-vote-Republican Republicans. The "anti-Obama vote" gimmick was so 2012, though I suspect it will be rehashed if Clinton is backed by the Democrats. It's looking to be a terribly boring campaign, in comparison to the past...
If Rand Paul wasn't so homophobic, I would fully support him. I hate all of our interventionism overseas and let the states have their own drug laws. I really hated the constant interruptions. The main moderator, Jake, was an absolute doofus. I don't like Carly, but I commend her for standing up to that a-hole Trump.
I must say that Jeb Bush won the award for the biggest gaffe when he said that George W. bush "kept us safe." Ummmmm... Spoiler
lol I played GOP bingo last night with my parents. I drew elephants as my marker. My mom accidentally printed out three of the same card so we all got a bingo! xD Republican debates are so funny, they all remind of me turkeys for some reason. (you can see when their "feathers are ruffled" xD) Also I don't think there is a day where one of those candidates doesn't mention Ronald Reagan.
I watched the second half or so of it, and I'd have to say that I think the "winners" of the debate were definitely Carly Fiorina, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich, and I can see their poll numbers rise from the debate results. Trump, Carson, and Bush all had pretty lukewarm performances, and all three had their share of gaffes (Trump getting his comeuppance from Bush, Bush saying his brother kept us "safe", and Carson saying a progressive tax is "Socialism"). Their poll numbers may fluctuate a bit, but they'll probably stay around the same place they are now, as well as Christie. I see Walker, Paul, Cruz, and Huckabee all dropping in the polls, because they honestly didn't talk very much from what I saw, and I can actually see Paul getting swapped out for George Pataki for the next main debate. Walker also had to impress to stay relevant, and I don't think he did. I'm still holding strong to my sentiment that I won't vote for any of them in a general election, though. This is just how I think the polls will play out.
It sounded like a fight between bickering cliques in a school cafeteria lunchroom, vying for popularity. This is the level a 'serious' debate has fallen to? I was wholly unimpressed by the entire spectacle.
Okay, well to be fair, you can't blame Bush for that, that was kinda just poor taste. You can blame Bush for being overwhelmingly stupid in his actions against the fact.
Actually, George W. Bush received a briefing from the CIA a month prior to 9/11 saying that they had intelligence that Al Quaeda was planning an attack on the United States. Besides, if Gore had been President on 9/11, the Republicans would have launched investigation after investigation and campaigned on Gore being a terrorist sympathizer who allowed the 9/11 attack to happen.
To be fair, the moderating questions really baited the candidates to argue with each other. "You were mentioned, so would you like to respond?" I've seen high school debates moderated better than that horrid job last night. After watching the full debate, Kasich seemed hopped up on caffeine for the first part, then he settled down and offered some excellent points. Unlike many other people, I like the Iran deal. We are getting much more access to their facilities. Kasich is right just as he is regarding the support of Medicaid. I just trust the guy. I could sleep soundly knowing he wouldn't go ape shit on a foreign power. With Trump, Cruz, and Mike Huckabee, heaven help us.
Fiorina did a pretty good job. She managed to put Trump in his place and she was very fierce. I like that quality. I hope she advances in the polls.
Just finished the second one and watched a bit of the first one. Both were train wrecks. So many whoppers (Fiorina on PP, Huckabee and Kim Davis et al) that Tapper and the other two (Dis & Mal) didn't pin them down on, the boots on the ground in the Middle East plans shows certain members of the GOP have learned nothing from Iraq & Afghanistan, the vaccines stuff was the stuff of Galileo's day, Marco Rubio's drought "joke", I could go on. All the GOP proved last night was they're the party of bronze age morons. Actually I take that back, that's not fair on people who actually lived during the bronze age. If you're a Republican you should embarrassed and disgusted that the party has been allowed to get into this state. As a side point, the moderators have been terrible. Paxman and John Humphries would maul this lot for fun.
