With the elections coming up, I was wondering how many people have donated $ to a candidate (directly or indirectly) or a party. Myself, I donated a bit to the DNC back in the Pelosi era, and also to the first Obama campaign, but as one without a lot of $, have not donated since then. I suppose, too, both of the major parties tend to be too conservative for me; neither really supports the environment or nature conservation, legalizing marijuana, a true national health care system, a national dental care system, the gaping chasm between rich and poor that only keeps getting worse, shrinking the bloated military budget and avoiding all these costly, endless wars, and a host of other things I'd like to see addressed. I vote Democratic as their views line up better with mine, but it seldom motivates me to donate. (I like Bernie Sanders this time around, but I wonder about his electability factor...it's very superficial, but I wonder if he will be viewed as 'too old'?)

    So, has anyone else donated?

I now donate a bit each month to the SPLC, and have also given to the ACLU.

I give £20 a month to the Scottish Conservatives and I gave my constituency candidate £100 when the Scottish Election process began. I want to see him in Holyrood and campaigns need money!

I've donated to both Obama campaigns, the Democratic Congressional Committee a couple times, the Democratic candidate for governor of KY in our upcoming election, and plan to donate to Hillary at some point

    Hell no.

Politicians don't need my money. The ones in power are already swimming in it, including the parties I support, such as the PQ and the BQ.

I've never donated to any political party, but if I had to by law, then it would have to be the Conservative Party.

I've been donating to Cancer Research, Battersea Dogs Home and Dogs Trust for a few years now though.

    Ron Paul in 2008. About $15-20, for a t-shirt.
    Barack Obama in 2008. About $15-20, for a t-shirt.

But other than that, no. They already get my money via taxes, why would I willingly give it up?

I've donated around $50 (for merchandise) to the Bernie Sanders campaign this year, and I'll probably end up donating some to Jason Kander for his Missouri US Senate bid.

No, and I don't intend to. I have better and more worthy causes to give my money to - a politician rarely, if ever, fits the bill.

The only things I donate money to at the moment are the NSPCC and The Donkey Sanctuary.

    With what money exactly?

It is hard enough to regularly donate to nonprofits. Campaigns are at the bottom of the totem pole.

I've donated money to Psol (Party of Socialism and Liberty, in a literal translation) on the last election of my country. I don't regret it, they don't accept money from private companies and seem honest, but I'd rather donate to another party next election.

I donated and also volunteered for the Bush campaign in 2004. By 2005-2006, I deeply regretted doing so. These days I keep my volunteering and small(very small) donations at the city level where I feel I can have more of an impact and also read on the genuine nature of each candidate.

I've never donated to a party or candidate; not even the $3 that can go to the presidential election fund that you can send via your tax return.
