When you're walking on the sidewalk, do you sometimes get yelled at by drivers?

It happens every once in a while for me. Today I was walking on the sidewalk and a car filled with a bunch of teenagers slowed down to yell random stuff at me. I have no idea what they said because all I heard was "Babaygufnsnfdsonnmgiemgire...." and them laughing. I don't know if they were trying to insult me or not...and the worst part is that it's so unexpected that I don't have time to react. I just stare back and they drive off.

I can remember a few times in the past when drivers yelled at me (though I can't remember what they said because it's been so long). I remember one guy threw an empty water bottle at me from their car window. :frowning2:

Any similar experiences? Why do they do this?

Only if I'm in their way. Otherwise, no.

Yes, I get this quite frequently.

I have this happen to me because I'm genderqueer and don't pass well. So I get malicious, misgendering homophobic street harrassment. Happens to me about half of the time when I'm running. :frowning2:

Once a little old lady slowed down and shouted "queer" at me. It was so bizarre I couldn't stop laughing  Other than that, people tend to mind their own business around here :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The best thing to do in that situation is get a rock and throw it through their window, then run like hell.

Doesnt happened to me. But one time when I was walking with my friend (trans F) in Manila, a truck driver shouted "Is she a girl?" and we just laughed  She's pretty ok with it, she said, and she was used to that.

This or throw a molotov in. If those isnt possible, just twirl and give them a wink then a flying kiss

Nope. Maybe they wanted to look cool in front of their friends, so you were "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

I remember when I was staying at a hotel with sociopaths-in-the making. My "friends" thought it was funny to throw bottles at windows and shout abuse at people. You couldn't tell them to stop. You had to act like it didn't bother you and suggest something else that's fun and less likely to get you into trouble.

I've had this happen to me a few times. Most of the time I have no idea what they are saying, but it is definitely off-putting.

The weirdest and funniest one, though, was back in college when I was walking up the street with a friend, and someone shouted out the window to us "Which way to the Statue of Liberty?!" (PS- I don't live in NY  ). My friend, who was a very tall, very "flamboyant" gay guy, just pointed in a random direction and shouted back "THAT WAY!"

A few times. And it was when I was first starting to present as male and go out in public. I have horrible hearing too so I never knew what exactly they were saying (though maybe that was a good thing).

One time I was going to a party in nice clothes and got catcalled. It was awkward.

All the time. There have been guys who tried to get me in their car like I was a prostitute. Someone has called me a fag I've had a full and open soda can thrown at thrown at me. Once I was walking down the street with my friend who was a white girl and two middle aged man yelled at her to find a nice white guy and then they slowed down I guess to see out reactions. The worst part about all of this is that they're in a car so I can't do anything

I remember having someone turn around in there car just to shout at me. It sometimes happens but I just think it only reflects badly on them and I pay no attention to the idiots

Yeah I think a couple of times. I mean I can't really remember what happened, but I knew the people who were yelling at me. Although there was one time a stranger made fun of my backpack while I was walking home.

I always pretend to not hear them. I'm not the confrontational kind of guy.

I don't know why people go out of their way to be mean sometimes. I mean I was just minding own business, sheesh.

Hmm, I've been catcalled and had one guy proposition me... and people sometimes try to lure me into their cars... It gets awkward... But I just ignore them and try not to worry about it... No response is usually the best response, and maybe going into a shop or something if you are worried for your safety. Good luck!!

Yes, but I'm not afraid to shout back or jump into the back of their truck.

To be fair, I've only done the latter twice, but still. It isn't really a big deal for me, and it hasn't happened in a few years. Most of the time, at least the recent times, it's just people being randomly dumb.
