I'm going on a field trip to the inauguration (Yay!!!!!!)...

Then, I got curious. Is anoyone else going to be there for when Obama becomes President?

A bunch of kids from our school are going on a school-organized trip, but I'm not. I would have if it didn't cost so much. If you see somebody wearing a Glenwood shirt, say "hi" for me.

Have fun!

I thought he was already president. Is this an official celebration or something?

we still have few more days to go...inauguration is 24th or something (im not sure)
so until then, bush is still president. obama is currently president-elect, but not officially president yet.

and amyleona: as for the tickets, i think they're already soldout, and even if there were tickets left, they would be exorbitantly expensive.

Oooh thanks I assumed Obama became president the minute the votes had all come through.

No, if it worked that way we'd never get anything done - in the 2000 election, there was a huge deal where thousands of votes had to be recounted and we didn't know who the president was going to be for several weeks, and it ended up with Gore having more votes but Bush becoming president because of the electoral college system. Obama is officially sworn into office on Jan 20th, at which point Bush leaves office (AND GOES BACK TO TEXAS AND CAN NEVER BE PRESIDENT AGAIN) and Obama becomes the new president.

I'm pretty sure that the actual ceremony is free, but finding the tickets is nearly impossible at this point. I know that there are some left...somewhere. :s

*is upset* So I got invited to go with People to People waaaay back in like September, and I was like wait.... what if Mccain wins? So as soon as I found out Obama won, my mom called them and I got put on a waiting list and I found out that I was GOING and I was soooo excited! But my mom's making me pay for it myself. So I'm paying like $3000 dollars to go see him get inaugurated, and spend four other days there doing museums and monuments I've already seen on a different trip, and my mom gets this email today. And they're like "We were unable to secure tickets, but we will arrive early so our ambassadors will still have a very good view." So we're going to CAMP OUT on the FRICKIN' MALL, meaning getting on the bus at 5:30 in the MORNING, and we may not even get to SEE HIM!!!!

*feels very ungrateful* I'm still really excited, but I was saving the money up and playing harp gigs and giving up my allowance under the impression that I was going to see Barack Obama be elected, and now I find out I'm not, and... ugh.

Seriously, I feel like such a brat now. *facepalm*

Anyways, so I suppose there aren't any tickets left.
