For a lot of people, the rainbow flag just means 'Gay'. For some it means 'Unity', or 'Strength'. What I'm asking you guys, is what does the rainbow flag represent to you? Is it just the Gay Community, the LGBTQ+ Community as a whole, or something else?

For me, it's a symbol of the LGBTQ+ Community all together. I find that the rainbow flag, although a primary symbol for the L & G parts of the acronym, is a symbol that unites all of us.

    What do you think?

My view of it has changed over the years. More and more I wish it doesn't have to represent our community, I'd rather not see humans divided (queer and straight). I see it as a symbol of a movement to break down the barriers that separate us.

To me, it just means that it's the gay flag. Nothing else, really.

I still have to reflect on it, but for now it means diversity, acceptance, humanity, self-expression, love and happiness.

I think it's a great symbol of pride, though it doesn't mean as much to me personally as the symbol of pride for object sexuals, the Red Fence, does:

It means I am part of the LGBT whole, and proud of it.

My son told us that now that marriage is legal, we have to hang up our colors. So, he went with me and we got a flag and put it up on our front door.

For me its a symbol of inclusion. All colors joined together, no one is left out and we are all in this with each other. Without cooperation the human race would fail and that flag shows that we believe in that

I feel like the flag gives me strength and to others as well! ^-^ I feel like it shows our pride to the world and tells the world that love is love and we're all humans!

But then again.. I would love for labels to be gone in the future. Even calling myself a lesbian or a friend calling me a lesbian makes me feel like I'm a monster or a different creature. I'm a human who loves a human being! Love is love and I hope that the rainbow flag will change the future. ^_^

I often think about that too when I think of or wear the colors of the rainbow flag, about ultimate unity of all of humanity, about the beauty of breaking down labels and barriers. I also feel pride and connection to all members of the LGBT community.

It means belonging. I mean...I don't really know where my tribe is in this world but, as far as I know...the LGBT+ community has to be the closest thing to it.

My best bet is that LGBT+ people will understand me.

To me, it used to just mean "gay/lesbian" but now I feel it's inclusive of the whole LGBTQ+ community

Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Fabulous.

It's a multi-colored flag. It can be whatever it wants to be, to anybody that wants it. For many, it's pretty forward: LGBT. For some, it's a symbol to band under, behind, and with. For several, it's what is wrong with the world today. And for the few, it's just a decorative piece of cloth.

Me, personally, I understand the significance of it. I know why it is important. But for me, if I'm going to own something with rainbow colors, I'd like to eat said colors. So, Skittles - 1, LGBT flag - 0.

To me, it's a symbol for the LGBT+ community as a whole. In the room where my campus LGBT group meets up, there are like two or three pretty big ones draped on the wall/door/table, and it always makes me feel warm inside. During pride celebrations, seeing it hung out of windows or on bridges or waved by hundreds of people gives me that irresistible urge to smile. It's just so... colorful. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I think it's a lovely, inclusive symbol.

I think it can be best summarised as "You're not alone". Which is a thought that cheers me up whenever I see it!

It means that while we may not be the majority, we are normal. We are human beings, united under a flag of love and acceptance.

To me, I think it means not being ashamed of who you are.
