With the 2016 election fast approaching, i was curious to see where the lgbt community was at politically. I ask that only registered democrats reply. Ill do a republican only one too later if its wanted.
Im a big Bernie Sanders supporter myself, hes been on the side of lgbt rights his whole career in politics.

None of them can do anything, unless the political machine wants it. What will happen, happens.

The people are the ones who can make that change, but so long as they buy into the 'vote for the lesser of two evils', they'll be strung along. Until they get pissed/inspired enough to become a nuisance, most progress will be delayed. The fact people are depending on politicians says more about a nation, than what any candidate, as of right now, could say.

Politicians operate much like corporations. Child labor laws, the 40 hours a week, overtime pay, and so on, wouldn't have been considered if the people didn't get riled up. Now that they've done this, we are told we should be glad just to work for any company, regardless of their stance or treatment of employees/customers. In the same way, politicians won't fix issues so long as they benefit from it, unless they gain a greater benefit. For example, so long as the LGBT+ community is suffering, they become important, the way to save us -- and that is where they get their power, and that is also why they keep it.

You want the meal, but you're being tossed the bones. It's something, so you hold out. But the reality is, if you settle for the bones, that's all you're going to get.

That all said, Bernie Sanders appears to be the best of what is available. I just don't know if he has the means to do what needs to be done.

I agree with you kaiser but on one point we differ. Bernie has said that its not about him, its about the movement and that he will succeed where obama failed by not telling his supporters, "thank you but i got it from here" once he got into office

Bernie said he will continue to use the movement of people and have them put pressure on washington to keep making forward progress.
I know it wont work for a good amount of things but its a much better approach than leaving ur coalition behind because you got into office

Leaning toward Hillary but strongly considering Biden. I'm sorry to burst everyone's bubble but Sanders will only hurt the party's chances in the long run. He has no appeal outside liberal educated white voters.

Id say bernie appeals to working class americans because hes not bought by big banks and shady corporations. He also should appeal to lgbt, and ethnic minorites. He was for lgbt rights well before hillary...she came around to it a year or two ago. And bernie conducted the first ever sit in to oppose segregated housing in chicago and marched with dr martin luther king jr.

Luckily there's almost no contest. Hopefully Bernie beats out the nutcase Republican candidates and gets elected.

Sadly I won't be able to vote, so close, but I'd probably have to go with Sanders

    Three words:

    FEEL THE BERN

Seriously though, Clinton seems nice and all, but she seems inconsistant with ideas, and she only supports what the polls say she should support. Like in 2004, she was anti LGBT+ Rights, and now she's selling rainbow Hillary buttons. She just seems to flip-flop, and like she can lie to the American public about issues. Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, seems to have our best interests in mind. He's always been Pro-LGBT+ Rights, he's always been Pro-Free Healthcare, he's always been Pro-Affordable College, (And free community college! Woo!) and he just seems to have all the same ideas that I wish we could universally agree on.

I'm independent, far from liberal..and I would consider Sanders over Hillary or Biden any day. Did you guys know that Bernie Sanders instituted a pride parade while mayor in a small Vermont town in 1985 during the AIDS crisis? He's got guts and character and can stand up to big business. I just disagree with his "free college" proposal because..well, nothing is ever free.

    FEEL THE BERN IS RIGHT!
I have to say, i am very pleasantly suprised by these poll results thus far. I know its a small sample size but its good to see. I just got in like a 3 hour debate with someone via social media and boy did it make me start questioning humanity but now seeing this.... HIP HIP HOORAY!
Just got to get this out there. The guy i was debating with talked himself into supporting bush sending bin ladens family out of the country with out being investigated just because bush did it. I didnt think those ppl still existed lol. I usually deal with libertarians where i live

Bernie resonates with younger people for sure, so the fact he is in the lead in our poll is not surprising. The margin is astounding though.

I honestly don't see how he could change the taxes regarding trading/stocks very easily. If he wants to close corporate loopholes, go for it. I don't think it is responsible to discourage private citizens from investing though. His own party would be fine with closing loopholes, but I am not sure about discouraging investment.

U.S. commercial banks earned $5.2 billion trading derivatives in the second quarter of 2009. It will be a tax that will be no more than 1%. I beileve bernie has said itll be a fraction of a percent but ill give it a round number at 1%.
That will not stiffle investment, in my opinion

Perhaps. But this is why I mentioned I don't think he has the means to do everything he wants, because a lot of what he wants makes those at the top come closer to the bottom, closer to equality. I've seen one person on the campaign trail become another in office. Obama is one of them, though to be fair, there has been a few decent things to come under his administration. While I wasn't tickled about the whole war complex fiasco, seeing same-sex marriage pass was impressive.

What I do know, Sanders seems reasonable. But if he can't change the way the machine works, it will still steam roll over those of us not fortunate to be driving it.

Interestingly, he may have one particular advantage here. I have heard people say that they won't vote for another historic first this time, which means Hillary, simply for being a woman, may lose some of those votes to Sanders. But Hillary has name recognition and, sadly, Americans like to do what the famous people do, so they may wind up sticking with her because of the name.

I'm skeptical about the "voting", but I'll be curious when we get to Iowa. Which isn't that far off...

Hillary Clinton. It's really scary that the extreme left would rather piss away a candidate that is numerically guaranteed to win the election with a self-proclaimed socialist who would lose in a 1984-syle landslide.

Sanders supporters need to realize this: Democrats already tried nominating a guy like Bernie Sanders back in 1972 named George McGovern, and he got crushed. Sorry to break it to you, but if Sanders got the nomination, the 1972 map is a good indication of what 2016 would look like.
