Have you seen the new way they teach math in schools?

    It's really interesting.

At first it had me confused, baffled, and a lil upset they were making something so simple needlessly complex.

    Then...

I figured out what was going on.

Using some basic reasoning skill I figured out what the heck was going on and how the new method worked, and I find it an interesting alternative.

I think it has a big problem though in the fact that neither parents nor teachers understand it at all, so it'll be hard to effectively teach it to anyone.

I've never really had a problem with math as I've always been ahead in it. It's one of few things I'm actually good at. I can definitely see how it will be much harder for people to understand.

On the up side, it's challenging kids to learn more and train their minds to be more prepared for the future.

On the down side, it's probably challenging kids too much.

Ultimately, I think it's really the wrong way to go about it. Kids need to learn a broad variety of subjects, but they shouldn't be challenged too much. Those who are good in math or seek jobs that involve math can move on at their own pace, while others should focus their attention elsewhere.

I definitely was a bit taken aback to see how this was done at first, but then learning the reasoning behind it and how it attempts to teach kids more than just algorithms (but rather, how they work), I actually can't wait to see if this will help America's education system or not. I'm cautiously optimistic.

No,just no. Those Three words make me want to vomit. Whoever came up with the idea of Common core is soulless and hates kids and wants to see them suffer and in pain.

It hasn't. It's more confusing than ever now.

Before this shit was introduced, I had a 100% in math.

    Now, I've a 67%.

I think it's going to hurt everyone initially because parents won't understand so they can't help, and teachers aren't familiar with it so they'll be a bit clumsy with it.

I also think that any students who weren't introduced to it from the beginning and are just thrown right into it will also struggle a lot with it as well.

It's different for sure, but it's focused on teaching students to think critically as opposed to just regurgitate information.

What is common core math? Is it a textbook? A rubric? A math-teaching software?

It's the new way public schools are trying to teach math.

You'd really have to look it up to see it.

I was fine with regular math till they started adding letters to it. To this day I have yet to have a need to find slope or to find x. Im never going to go to McDonalds and hear " your total is X + R/Square root of 12". Math is a horrible thing.

If you like math, and are exceptional at it. I respect that; I like you. More so because it isn't something I'm particularly exceptional at.

You're fine... until you ask me to solve some ridiculous equation, then it might be time for a defriending.

Isn't Physics enough to train "critical thinking"? :O

But, looking at the few examples of common core math, I realize they are easier than the things I learned at middle school  So I can testify this, being good at math doesn't really translate to this 'critical thinking' in other aspects of life nor you need to know how every formula works!

Or maybe I give myself too little credits...

I tried googling information about common core but most of it was news articles about how much everyone dislikes it. I'm just happy I'm done with math, for the most part.

I'm very confused at common core math. All I can find is the subtraction table. From the few examples I found, it's similar to the math I learn right now.

    I am seriously confused.
