I'm sure most of us , especially Americans, have heard the question from a cashier "Did you find EVERYTHING OK?".

I heard that question of " Did you find EVERYTHING OK" for so many many years already but I always have replied "Yes".

Regardless of whether I truly did find everything OK or not, I have always said yes.

    How about you?

If I found what I needed, yes.
If I did not find what I needed, no.

Now that I think about it, I say no on multiple occasions... :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    More than three.

    If it's a 'normal' grocery store, I generally don't.

But as I love to cook, and sometimes go to 'fancier' places, in those cases, my expectations are higher, so I have mentioned not finding ingredients I've needed---particularly at Whole Foods. (aka, Whole Paycheck)

As in at the supermarket? because if so I don't tend to get asked that much, and if I do it's usually on an automated machine. I remember one machine asking if the service was ok and there were two buttons, a green one and a red one. Simple enough system, press green if it was ok, press red if it wasn't. But you had to do so while an aggressive looking guy stood behind you. So I'm sure they got plenty of positive reviews.

In terms of restaurants, they don't usually ask or they get you to fill in a form and tick an option of how you would rate the service and then go into more detail below.

So I'd have to answer zero for this one.

My question to you all whom have replied "No" when the cashier ask "Did you find everything OK", what does the cashier would say back to you?

I've ALWAYS ALWAYS have said "Yes", so I have never heard a response a cashier might say.

Maybe two times when I was really pissed that I couldn't find an item that should be in stock. Most of the time I say yes, and a few times I gloss over trivial, non-essential items not present as "no big deal".

They've asked what item it was I didn't find. To which I might answer: Goats milk, little-neck clams, polenta, or whatever the case may be.

I've never done it. I usually find what I'm looking for and I'm satisfied. Even when I haven't, I've found other things I've been looking for and wouldn't care much because I knew I could come back any other time to look for it again. Even when I haven't found anything I was looking for, I'd still say yes because by that time, I'm ready to get out of the store and I would rather not have someone pester me into looking for it when I really don't want to at the moment.

Overall, I don't ask the staff for any help unless I'm truly desperate because of incidences I've had in the past where I was either cheated out of my money or lied to due to lack of experience. I know that it may not sound fair, but that's the honest truth.

@ CanterPeace, I've been asked that question in

    1) Super Markets,
    2) Pet supply stores
    3) Convenience stores
    4) Plant nurseries
    5)Auto Part stores
    6) ETC.

    Everywhere except restaurants and eateries.

I don't think I've been asked that before? Not in the supermarket at least. But in situations like that I say yes regardless, my social anxiety won't have it any other way. lol

None. If I couldn't find something, I would've either left the store or asked someone, not gone up to the cashier.

Really? I've only ever been asked it at tech shops and restaurants. Apart from that, people don't tend to ask whether or not you were satisfied with the service around here.

Yes, in America people get asked that question a lot.

My personal experience is 5 out of every 10 times cashiers at any given business would ask me that when they check me out.

A couple of times, but only when something was really wrong, like products being sold past their selling date, finding out a product I bought was spoiled/broken/whatever, things like that.

-"I'm sorry to hear that. What were you looking for and could not find?"
    -"We apologize for the inconvenience."
    -"What couldn't you find?"

@HuskyPup - The Whole Foods reference is me exactly (too). As a chef (unprofessionally), certain ingredients are needed that are vital for recipes. Using a lesser quality spice can turn a great dish into mediocre one. Such as... Organic Vietnamese Cinnamon. Did I ever mention that I won our county fair's Apple Pie contest? I am heading to the state fair in January to compete there... AND WIN.

    Wow! And congratulations!

I agree about the importance of key ingredients. And I'm more prone to saying what I didn't find at Whole Foods or Wegman's, simply because they represent themselves as such 'fancy' places.

Now that I've become a vegetarian, it seems the whole landscape is shifting, too.

Oh, maybe not a pure vegetarian. The only meat I still eat here and again are bivalves: Clams, mussels, scallops. I wonder if there's any others that make this 'bivalve only' exception? Don't eat fish, or other sea critters, though.

Does anyone here work as a cashier that have to ask the question " Did you find everything OK?" ?

What is the purpose of asking that question?

What do you do with the answers that you get from that question?

If this is a serious question,

    X's means times.

I couldn't fit the whole word "times" in my title.

I wondered about that, too. Just quickly glancing at the thread, I wondered: Why are all my x's working as cashiers and why am I saying no to them? =p Then I read the thread, and it made sense.
