I call everyone "hun". I'm really sorry if that makes me sound like your grandmother, but that's just the way I talk. My friends tell me I speak with the vocabulary of an old englishwoman, but I think that's pretty preposterous.

While we're on the subject, do you have any weird quirks in your speech?

Yeah, I can be very morbid, so some folks might think I'm depressed ^^; I'm usually okay, so yeah. And I know I say "yeah" and "hell" a lot.

I've been told that my vocabulary is grimdark. The more I worry about it, the more grimdark it becomes, so I just (mostly) stopped worrying about it.

Plus I can sound like a retarded poet. But you wouldn't know it, because I have more time to think about responses online. At least it isn't as annoying/persistent as it was when I was a teen.

I speak however I'm feeling. Sometimes I'm amused, because there is the opportunity to use favorites words of mine, like 'chicanery' or 'ass clown'.

How would others describe it? Mm... well, it depends really. They may say a stand up comedy routine or an amusingly morbid realist. It's hard to pinpoint, but it's an idea of how quirky I can speak.

As for how others talk to me, do whatever. So long as you're demonstrating basic consideration, we're fine. I'm not going to tell you to change how you speak, but I may tell you to pump up the volume or tone it down. That's everybody though.

Just... if you want to be taken seriously, spell as properly as you can. Bad grammar or spelling errors can make the most dire of situations the most ridiculous, and some folks get their feelings hurt when that happens. I'd rather avoid it, you know?

That's fine! 'Hun' is more or less the Maryland state 'slang' word, you could say, and is commonly used as a term of friendly greeting here. It's always seemed kinda cute to me, but as an English major, I'm very fond of noting things like dialect and accents.

Heh, just like I will use the rare "bro" for male or female friends. It's more for emphasis than anything, and is sort of funny on girls.

An old Englishwoman? Unabashed tom-foolery, the lot of their claims.

I use "Oh, really?" at the end of my sentences a lot. If we're talking addressing people though, "man" slips in there a lot, even with females.

Using "hun" is perfectly okay--I know college students and older people who use it.

That's cute! I always call people hun, too. I use hun, hunty, gurrl on a daily basis.

I have for a long time addressed any group of people as "guys." That was in lower and middle school, when I went to an all-girl's school. Now that there are actual guys at school, I address a group of people as "you people."

I call people "hon" pretty often myself. I remember years ago I used to manage a Borders bookstore. I had all these like 20 year old straight boys who worked for me. And one day it occurred to me that maybe it wasn't really appropriate to be calling them "hon" all the time. I brought it up, apologized and said I would work on not doing it any more. They got together and conferred and then came to me and said that they liked my management style and that, again they hoped I wouldn't be offended, my management style could perhaps best be described as "maternal" and they would appreciate it if I didn't change anything. They actually rather liked the "hon' thing. Who knew?

I say "hun" as well- I do it a bit less now but I used to say it a lot. I also say stuff like "hey folks" or "see you folks" or "seriously folks?" which I can't stop.

Other kind of 'quirks' I guess is how I say "okay"/"alright" depending on situation/tone, though it's hard to describe on text online.

Exactly what I was going to say. My wife hates it. Especially when I say something like "I love you dude."

I sometimes use, "Would you kindly?" Or I would use, "Companion" instead of saying, "The thing that goes with it." Like I would say, "Could you pass me the companion pen for this journal?"

Okay I'm sorry but I found that last part hilarious :eusa_clap
I'm sorry but if my (nonexistant) significant other ever told me "I love you dude" I would just stare at him for a full 2 minutes

I have a tendency of swearing/insulting in German. And sometimes other words from said language will slip into a conversation.

I also curse like a sailor in less polite company. [IMG]

I say 'man' to everyone as well, it's nothing personal, it's just a generalized type of thing lol

Dependingo on the situation, I can be either very brief and direct, or very enthousiastic and longwinded.
Usually has to do with stress, thinking about other things and how much I know/like you.
