When you hear a recording of yourself

For the first time in years - my voice has since broken - I have heard my own voice. On the plus side, the last time I heard it I freaked out, hated it and vowed to avoid listening to my voice for the rest of my life. This time it's not bad - I can work with it - and I sound more or less what I expected myself to sound like.
But I was surprised at how soft my voice was: I was verging beyond the favourable David Attenborough territory!

Have you ever heard your own voice? What did you think? Have you taken measures to change your voice?

When a mic is right in front of my mouth (that has lots of bass, its called the proximity effect) my voice sounds great. I sound like a radio announcer.

About a foot away and further my voice sounds absolutely terrible. I hate the sound of my voice in videos without that added bass of being close-mic'd. Skull resonance being what it is, how I hear my own voice sounds awesome. A lot of people compliment me on my voice, so I really don't know how I sound to others.

Yeah, I record myself when I sing, and I've heard recordings of myself when I speak.

I don't hate it, but I'd like to have a naturally deeper voice, to put it simply. Though with that, I'd also like my body to suit/match my voice (...this sentence made more sense in my head).
    It'd be nice.

Whenever I hear my own voice, I think to myself.. there's no way my voice is that deep - is this really how I sound to other people? When I first heard it I actually disliked it a lot. Now I'm indifferent. I like how my voice sounds to my own ears.

On the plus side, my shouting voice is a little scary, so I command fear respect.

I really hate my voice T.T Some of my classes are recorded and I literally feel sorry for anyone who has to hear me, haha~ My voice is super high-pitched and sounds like a little kid T.T But, people always tell me I sound cute, so maybe it's not too terrible T.T

    I also love cursing and freaking people out XD;;;

My voice is pretty nice. I actually have quite a wide range of vocals though which is awesome.

I sound deeper in my head, and it embarrasses the fuck out of me when I hear my own recording. I mean, I guess it's not bad, but it's really annoying when I call customer service and they're just like "I'm sorry you've been having this issue ma'am, let me help resolve this" ._.

I've been told that, when I put effort into being clear and confident, my voice is great and makes me sound knowledgeable, but if I don't put effort into it, people tend to stop listening. :frowning2:

I've been told by many on EC and in real life that I should go into radio or be a narrator or something in that field.

I left a voicemail on my grandpa's phone when I was a kid and he played it for me. I sounded exactly like my cousin and I hated it. A couple years ago, my best friends recorded me yelling at Skyrim. I was too distracted by embarrassment over the video to pay attention to my voice.

I hate my voice with a passion. I think it sounds nasally.

I hate my voice with a passion, it's a major source of dysphoria for me especially in recordings. Its way to high and little girly.

I'm 25 but in recordings I sound like a 12 year old girl and it's frustrating especially since my two brother have these awesome unique voices with rich bass. My older brother voice has been compared to the likes of James Earl Jones and the late Barry White

Having played around with audio, I know for a fact that your voice sounds weird when you first hear it. You never realize it, but that's how your voice may sound to other. Depending on perception and the type of mic and stuff. <3
