How do you pronounce "research?"

Re-search.

Strongest emphasis on the 'Re', and an only slightly less emphasis on the 'rch' part.

 

I'd say RE-search if used as a noun, which is more common in how I use it.
Possibly more use of re-SEARCH if used as a verb, now that I think about it more.
Overall, more use of RE-search, so I voted that way.

Although, that word always confused me in verb form, unless you were searching for something before, it didn't make sense to 're-search' something.

 

That's exactly how I pronounce it!

 

I say "I've been doing some RE-search", but also, "I've been re-SEARCHing". I don't know why, but it varies depending on the context.

I've never even noticed a difference before but now that I think about it I accent the first syllable on the verb and the second syllable on the noun--which seems to be the opposite of how most people in the thread who distinguish do it.

 

Say ruh-suuuch quickly, if you want to sound British.
