So it's coming on for Christmas. As some of you know, my girlfriend is a trans woman. She's on a very low income, and a legal name change is $100 if you want to wait 11 weeks, or $210 if you want it within a week. I put the idea to Facebook that we could pass the proverbial hat, and asked for people to donate towards her name change for Christmas. Within an hour, the $210 was reached. I'm flabbergasted at how generous people are. A bunch of young people, most of whom aren't in full-time employment, some of whom haven't even met her, have paid for a trans woman's real name to be reflected on her documents. Within the space of an hour. Tonight, I love people. (I blocked her from seeing the FB post, so she doesn't know about it. I plan to surprise her with it in two weeks, November 25, for an early Christmas present. That's also the day she sees a GP who can hopefully help move her along the process of medical transition. It seems appropriate.)
Congrats! I must say, you are an awesome girlfriend. And sometimes, it's true, people can be surprisingly good. Faith in humanity restored: +0.001%
A lovely name. Can't help but think of the Tower of God character named Rachel though aha. I'm so happy for her, and what an amazing girlfriend you are to have thought of this for her! How great of those people to help too!
It got to $345. With that, she'll be able to pay for an expedited name change, and also a private session with a psychiatrist to work towards getting her HRT letter. I'm thrilled.
