How do you feel about them? Do you watch and do you have a favorite one? I'm currently watching a telenovela with a gay character and it's surprisingly not that bad. I mean, it's dramatic and ott as hell, but I love it.
I don't watch them, but I like that they exist. Lots of man and woman candy. My mom currently watches one on Univision about a girl with a hideous bob and really thick eyebrows. I've caught bits of it and found myself chuckling.
OMG that is the one I'm watching. Maite Perroni from RBD is the protagonista, she's ugly and a loser but becomes pretty eventually (like I said.. this is a telenovela lol). The telenovela actually has a gay character too, so you should definitely check it out if you can. I think it even airs with subtitles in USA. Here is a clip
 SCORE! I remember Maite! When I was in highschool RBD was big. It seemed like all my cousins loved them. Maybe I should secretly check it out...
I watched the first ep of Reina de Corazones and loved it. I couldn't find it anywhere else online except YouTube and it only had the first one or two eps of it on there and I haven't watched it since. I don't know of any others though.
I don't like telenovelas because they're so predictable: poor girl meets rich guy and they eventually fall in love, but also the poor girl happens to have some long-lost relative who is rich and she finds her true identity and then also becomes rich in her own right. Or, ugly girl becomes pretty girl. I don't like telenovelas because they seem to lack creativity and/or used as an aspirational tool to keep the poor Latin American masses in place and to ensure they have "hope" that they, too, can have a "fairy tale" life. That said, I don't watch Spanish television (or any television).
