Default LGBTQQ Housing?

A friend of mine at my university wants me to consider signing up for the new LGBTQQ Housing that they're setting up at my college. I'm thinking about doing it cuz I guess that'd be sorta cool i guess, but I don't know if I want to really. Like, I don't get the point of doing it? Can someone try to like convince me to do it or not to do it? like give me reasons why you think maybe I should do it. Basically the whole floor is for LGBT ppl and such, or even non LGBT but probably its gonna be just LGBT ppl. There can be intergender roommates (like a guy can room with a girl in a double) and stuff. My friend is going to be the RA (Resident Advisor) for that floor and he is like one of the leaders or something of the LGBT community at UB too. I sorta don't want to do it, cuz i don't really want to be like segregated from everyone else, i love my friends, and I have tons of straight friends, and people basically think I'm straight too, those who didn't notice my recent change in Interest on Facebook. so I don't really know. :/

So yeah, basically, if you were offered it, would you take it? and Why?

Well, it might mean you meet new LGBTQ people, which could be fun. It's an easy way to come out to everyone, whoever didn't ntice will quickly realise now. Plus fewer stares when you make out with a guy in the corridor (or maybe more stares....)

Personally, I don't think it would have mattered to me whether bunking with a guy or a girl. I like them both! So seperating me into a different wing is pointless.

But I can see this as a real opportunity for transgendered, genderless or genderqueer people. I think it would be nice to not have to worry about your gender identity on a floor where there would be shared bathroom facilities and changing areas.

In any case, the residence I stayed in was very queer positive (we had those stickers everywhere) and everyone in the hall was required to attend an LBGT information and activity session. It was called Rez Project, I believe. We talked about things like people who ask to be referred to as "they" instead of "she" or "he". It was really interesting.

Would be quite cool I think. I don't see any reason why not?

I would, simply because it'd let me meet more people like me.

However, in reality, I don't find it a good idea. It's kind've a step back, considering it's pretty much segregation...

As much as I love getting to peek at the other guys in my dorm, I'd probably take it. I mean, I have a hard time finding other gay people on campus. It would be very convenient to live in close proximity to them. Not that my school would ever do something like that, though. Stupid homophobic south.

Well - I'm a lot of years past being in that situation - but, if I were you, I think I would be feeling the same way as you are - and take the same stance as that eloquently expressed by partietraumatic.

I think that they should offer it, but it should only be available to those who meet the standards of deliciousness required by our community. That is to say, hot.

I would! That would be a hoot

Honestly, that sounds like a good idea not just cause you can meet people, but its going to generally be a more friendly, open and accepting enviorment about EVERYTHING not just sexuality.

It would create segregation but I think it would be cool... I'd go for it.

Just let yourself mingle with everyone. I would definitely visit that house a lot, but i mean just roam the campus and meet all kinds of people!

I guess it is kind of like segregation but really it's not cause you're not forced to live there, it's a choice.

I would personally, just because you'll meet and interact with new people.
It's basically like living in the "gay district" or on the "gay street" or whatever.

I'd do it for sure, because I'm not entirely comfortable telling my roommates about me (they're both straight). If it were a GLBTQQ floor, I'd feel more at ease, like a little person at one of those little person festivals. I'd feel like I fit in.

And even if you don't like the people there, it's just where you shower and sleep at night; even now I'm posting from a computer outside my room--I dread my roommate's company! And when both of them are there...

I may just be exaggerating. I don't dislike one of my roommates because he's straight. He's just an ass. Ultimately it doesn't matter what sexual orientation your roommate is, unless they're homophobic or looking for a relationship or mutual understanding when it comes to sexual attraction.
