I'm just wondering if it's socially acceptable at all for a guy to wear like eye shadow and what not. I rather like the way certain types of make up accentuate certain facial features and wouldn't mind using it when I'm older. Please be honest, would I be viewed as a freak for doing that? Keep in mind that I'm not asking if you think that guys should be able to wear make up, but whether or not I would be deemed weird by society for doing it. Do any other guys want to wear make up, or am I weird for feeling that way?

You will always get looks from some people, but the people who matter will consider it part of you. You want to wear it, go for it.

It's not socially acceptable, but do whatever the hell you want. The more men that do it, the more it will be accepted by society with time.

It's weird that make up is seen as a female thing. It's pretty much paint on your face!

If you like it, do it. Who cares if its within social norms?

Honestly, makeup shouldn't be gender associated. In theatre, every actor has to wear makeup--no matter what gender. It changes the appearance of certain features under the lights (makes the face less shiny, brings out the eyes so they don't look strange, etc.). That's all makeup is for, really: bringing out certain features. Any gender can do that. Making makeup a thing for "girls" is really narrow minded, in my opinion.

It's not socially acceptable if it's noticable (it usually is).

This. As someone who's worked in film, makeup comes with the territory if you're going to be on film so I'm sort of used to it. I don't wear any myself, but go for it if it makes you happy.

I really want to wear eyeliner, as well as grow out my hair to look feminine emo/shy eye, although I'm actualy not emo, it just looks cool. I'm having the same problem though, because I've worn eyeliner before for cosplay, and really like how it looks. I wish I could where more often, but I hate people looking at me.

Go some for subtle eyeliner at first, don't automatically jump into "2007 Pete Wentz" though. Just gradually add more until you feel comfortable wearing it. Sadly, you might get some negative remarks on it because society doesn't accept a guy that isn't 100% masculine.

No it's not socially accepted from what I see.

I know there is a stereotype like all Gothic guys wear makeup (obviously not all) and people tend to be cool with that.

But like many have said there will be some who will think you are a freak, and honestly someone always will think you're a freak. So do what you want! I'm all for changing the norms. Though easier said than done.

In my opinion? Yes, no doubt about it. You do what makes you happy.

Is it socially accepted? No. Most people see make up as 'girly', so men are looked down upon when wearing make up, even if it's just a little bronzer to cover up some pimples or something.

It's actually really funny because, in the early 20th century, pink was a masculine color and blue was a feminine color.
    This website shows why.
    So... yeah.

    Of course.

It might not be uber-socially acceptable depending on where you are but at the end of the day that shouldn't matter. Do what makes you happy.

It's fine. As long as it's something you want to do, then go ahead and do it. You'll get some judgement, sure, but a lot of people out there will get it. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it at all - plus many people must be the same way as well.

Societal norms exist only to limit us.

Do. Whatever. The. Fuck. You. Want.

I cannot stress this enough, fuck society, and fuck its preconceived concept of masculinity. If it makes you happy, do it. A lot of people seem to emphasize easing into makeup, but the way I see it, you don't need to. You can just go out tomorrow in a full blown Jeffree Star look and rock that shit. There is no need to ease your way into it unless that is what you need to be comfortable.

As a trans girl who isn't out to my whole school yet, most people see my as a guy wearing makeup. And I have not gotten a single negative comment.
