Were you almost accidentally exposed as not straight?

My apologies if this was a past thread, I only recently started posting / answering in this section. But I was wondering if anyone was almost accidentally exposed as not straight? I assume if it has happened to anyone, most cases would be caught on a dating site, gay porn, this website, etc.

I'll share my experience. It was about 3 or 4 years ago. I started talking to a guy on the app Kik that I met from Instagram. He was bisexual and I was still confused but believed I was bisexual. We were talking for a few weeks and started using the kissy emojis and the heart eyes (thinking back, it was ridiculous we were doing that after only 3 weeks).

Anyways, I had notifications set on my phone so you could see the message even when the phone is locked. I left my phone unattended and my brother saw a bunch of kissy emojis from this guy on Kik (which would obviously look suspicious). He said "What the hell?"

I brushed it off and said it was a friend. I'm lucky he didn't send something much worse at that time.

I still wonder to this day if my brother thinks about that message because it really scared me. I deleted Kik long ago and learned to never have the message preview on - lol. Do you have a similar story?

I don't think I have ever been exposed in that way, but my friend did out me in front of a dozen strangers one time. She had been drinking far too much and was saying something about hot guys or whatever, then she suddenly pointed at me and said.

"Well Stevie doesn't even know what he wants. He's a virgin!"

I was so mortified. Not only did she out me as "not-straight", but also divulged information that I told her was a secret to these COMPLETE strangers. Blugh.

I had my friend walk in my boyfriend and I making out half-naked before either of us were out to anybody.

...That's one of about 20 ways that come to mind. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    Lol, guitar! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I was at a party last weekend and a friend of mine asked me "Are you bisexual?" I don't know how it came up, it just did. He asked me twice but I dodged the question each time (and he concluded "Oh well, he's bisexual"*). ^^

*not out to them, therefore the misgendering >__>

When in college at the food court I would be eating with friends and many hot guys would pass by. When I later came out to a friend, he said my wandering eyes made him question if I was gay .

Fine, as long as no one was mean or tried hitting on me right then and there for a joke [if it's serious, then okay].

I've had several slip-ups, luckily nothing tooo bad but maybe that's just wishful thinking:

-My parents and/or my sister may have seen me on this site before I closed it quickly

-Recently my sister asked who my background photo on my phone was (a hot actress) and I just said it's an actress from a show I watch (a really gay show, but she wouldn't know what it is anyway) and she said "That's weird." and left.:eusa_doh:

-I hold my "friend"'s hand a lot and sometimes we've been all hand-holdy around my mom and I'm not like that with anyone else soooo....

-One time I was in Victoria's Secret with my mom and there was a guy in there waiting for his gf and looking really awkward on his phone so we were joking about it. Then a couple minutes later my mom said "Well you know, this could be a good place to pick up chicks." And for some weird reason I thought for a split second she was talking about me and not the guy so I turned around and said "What?!" and probably looked pretty shocked. And then she said she was talking about the guy:/

I should really be more careful!

Not necessarily exposed as "not straight", but close enough

Yeah, over the summer when me and some of my family went to an amusement park, and one of my cousins (who I've only met a handful of times and didn't even realize was also ftm transgender) asked me, in front of my sisters, brother, and aunt and uncle what my "preferred name" was.

The odd thing was that I hadn't even told anyone I was transgender. I was still figuring that out at the time. But his... I'm not sure if it was his mom or his stepmom or what, but they told him I was a transguy. I don't think anybody else heard him ask me what my "preferred name" was, or if they would even know what that meant, but I had to wait until we were out of everyone else's earshot to explain myself. (That was also the first time I introduced myself as my "preferred name", come to think of it.)

To be honest, it was kind of funny explaining to him how I hadn't actually told anyone yet and certainly wasn't out to anyone, but that the woman who told him was still right.

I've talked to him a few times since then. It's kind of nice having someone in real life who knows what all this is like.

People always called me a lesbian XD;;; I guess my friends and I were really touchy-feely... my bff and I would just grab or caress each other's boobs for fun, (which really made our super straight friend upset, haha), and we would say we were a couple when we went out so guys wouldn't hit on us... When she got engaged, her fiance even told me he felt threatened by me because I was an ex who was still in her life @.@ No one believed us when we said we hadn't actually fooled around, lolol~

Then when I moved to Korea, I moved with a friend of mine and everyone thought we were lovers... Both of our companies talked openly about how we were dating and how we were both lesbians... I mean, just because we shared a bed for a while doesn't mean we were doing anything XD;;; She was even engaged at the time, so she was really shocked and was like, "You've all seen my fiance come pick me up at work... so... umm?"

    Maybe I've just always had really open friends? ^.^;;;;;

    Yeah once.
My friends who knew about my sexuality were joking out loud about my crushes.
And we were laughing pretty loudly and here we are walking down a road and our professor heard it all.
Fortunately he thinks its a joke

One of my friends in high school was rather talkative; not in a bad way, but they had trouble knowing when to talk quietly about a sensitive subject. So quite often they would talk loudly about my sexual preferences/gender in the middle of the hallway. I was partially outed to my siblings this way, and it confused a lot of people when she referred to me as 'gay' while I appeared to be a heterosexual female, lol.

Otherwise it's all been stupidity on my part. Left an internet page with some relevant details open, where a sibling happened to come across it. Wrote some relative details in my journal, where who knows who came across it (my family is unfortunately the type to think nothing of going through my things while I'm not around, lol)-- I suspect at least one sibling and one parental unit.

I notably outed myself to my mother by writing some relevant details, then throwing it away-- in my trash can, which for some reason she decided to "clean out" the following day  (Important to note, she never cleans my room/trash/etc, and never has, it's always been that we should clean it ourselves... ) Tried to pass it off as "remnants of an old phase", fortunately nothing had dates or current events, but she began frequently cornering me to question if I'm a lesbian and/or if "[I've] surrendered to the facts of [my] gender, or if still believe [I'm] a boy"... :confused2:

Actually, what's funny is most of my family thinks I'm a lesbian. I've been trying not to slip up and say I'm actually into dudes, because if they knew that, then I'd never be able to sneak boys into my house! Ha ha.

I looked back at a guy that's wearing only boxer shorts while watering their garden. My friend asked why, I told them he's my cousin (lie of course)

Was actually exposed, but no one believed it. So, no harm, no foul.

My flatmate once told everyone in the block I was trans. The worst part was, she told them wrong.

This one time this girl I used to be friends with told my ex who liked me that I'm a lesbian so he shouldn't go after me (he liked me again) and I'm not even a lesbian I told her I was bi. We think she did it because she liked him and was jealous. My friends are awesome they all gave her the silent treatment. The lesson here I guess is be careful who you tell.

We were having a x-mas party at school ,and my friend took my phone away from me while i was playing a game and started playing it. No big deal she hit the home page on my phone and my screensaver was a rainbow. She asked me if i was gay really loudly and it was a small class so everyone heard. I got scared and couldn't talk so i walked to "the bathroom" and didn't come back for 2 weeks

A long while ago I was around some guys talking and one of them asked me if I was gay. I blushed furiously and said "no", but it probably came out sounding more like the angry sound a dying cat makes when it gets hit by a baseball bat, after being dunked in a pool of water. The guy just looked at me with pity and pretended he beilived me.
