Just wondering if anyone knew the answer to this. Do you know if transgender people can serve in the USA military, as their genuine gender? Are there pre-requisites (e.g. having undergone HRT for a certain amount of time or having had gender-affirming surgeries)? I'd heard that there was push to dismantle the laws banning trans service-members, but I couldn't find a conclusive answer as to whether they passed. Basically, I want to know if we have equal rights in the military (obviously the military isn't easy regardless, but knowing you're protected legally helps). Also if anyone has any links to news stories about this, I'd be happy to have them. Thanks.
Not while out of the closet as of this time. But it's funny you asked. The Pentagon is reviewing policies as of right now in the hopes of allowing trans people to openly serve.
No, they are not able to currently. There are many who are serving while being closeted. There are also a few serving openly, but they have the support of their chain of command. It's a complicated issup really. I know they are working on dismantling this policy.
