Rural life is just about the least appealing situation I could imagine. Apart from people who live rurally but commute so often that their lives are effectively urban, I usually find it rather challenging to have common ground with who are so rural as to actively identify as such. I do have a few friends who live in rural areas, but all of them are moving to cities.

It's not that I dislike people from the country; that would be too snobbish even for me. I'm just thoroughly unattracted to a country lifestyle. I certainly wouldn't refuse to date someone for having a rural background, but it's more likely that I'll be interested in people who live in cities.

I'm not bothered, but I'm not moving to the country for anyone.

That's almost irrelevant to me. If I like the guy I just like him. They both have their ups and downs and I think I can be happy with either. No shade to those with preference though .

City boys, sorry. I appreciate the hard work that country boys go through, but we have absolutely nothing in common. I also find that a lot of southern people have different views than I do. From my experience, they also tend to be quite prideful, and I don't like that so much.

My friend for example is from Texas, and she always says how everything up in the north sucks and if you want "real stuff", you need to go to the south. Always boasting about how people are better there, life is better, southerners are more attractive than northerners, etc... it's just a little irritating, and quite offensive since I am a northwesterner. ><

    I'm making a big generalization, I know, but it's what I've experienced.

I think I personally prefer country boys, but that's because I actually want to one day move out to the country and/or commute like Aussie mentioned. I wouldn't really want a guy who's too prissy to get dirty from time to time.

I feel like I'm a city boy at heart even though I've lived in North Carolina my whole life.

I've never dated anyone so who know what I'll want? In my head I like city guys more.

Generally, I like people from northen hemisphere, sometimes I dig the south too.
I'd have to say no. Don't like the country in my...country.

I've always lived in or around a city, so I'd have to say city folks. That said, I'd have less in common with country guys, but country guys can be more direct many times. They're either looking to score and don't want to play games or they just don't have as many hangups because they can be rougher around the edges. The other thing, though, is that country guys might not want to interact with a city guy because they might feel a little intimidated on the level of polish but they definitely wouldn't be intimidated on the physical level because some of them could beat the crap out of a lot of city guys. The country guy/city guy combination might be more of a hook up thing than a longer term thing.

Can we touch, for just a moment, on the topic of a 'real man?'

A real man is any person who identifies as a man. /rant.

    That being said.

I don't care. Depends on the individual. But, having gone to a high school in the boonies, and gone through the welding course at a tech school, self-described "country-boys" annoy the shit out of me.

I suppose country guys would be alright--as long as they were willing to move to the city. Seriously, if a city doesn't have taxi cabs, an opera company and the ability to order Thai food at midnight it's just not going to work out for me.

City for me, hands down. I'm not into the country lifestyle and I don't think I would be into a guy who is.

I actually don't have a preference. I could not care less where they come from for as long as they are nice people. As for actually going to the countryside, I think I would like that a lot. I don't like living in the city. A town close to it would be okay.
