Do you think churches/religious people will change their stance on LGBT issues?

I know I make a lot of threads regarding religion, but I've see, first-hand, so much bigotry, hate, and prejudice from many religious people and church members...It's just getting too much.

I've heard that gay people don't feel "love" but instead they "lust" towards others. I hear the whole "love the sinner, hate the sin" attitude so much and that quote only gets said when people refer to homosexuality - nothing else. There's more...

    Gays don't deserve marriage.
Gays are going to ruin the sanctity of marriage.
    Gays are perverts.
    Gays are corrupted by Satan.
Being gay is unhealthy and it's a sinful 'lifestyle choice'.
Gays are evil and want to damage society and children.
    Gays are doomed to hell.
God didn't create gays. He created man for woman and they're turning their backs on him.
Anybody who supports them aren't 'real' Christians.

Then they say, "....But I'm not a bigot for believing _____. I love them with all my heart. I have many friends who are gay. I just pray that they change. I don't hate them at all. Cheers! (*hug*)"

I know they're entitled to their opinion, no matter how harsh it may be. They back it up by the same quotes we've all probably seen before (Leviticus). Every time a victory is made for LGBT equality, they butt in and bitch about it constantly saying how the world is doomed and what not. Will these people ever change their minds/can they be reasoned with?

Reason and belief are two entity that will never meet.

    Three options:
    1. Society accepts LGBT people and noone gives a fuck about it anymore so the churches will have to adapt.
    2. LGBT people will keep being Satan-tier.
    3. Humanity evolves and gives up on religions.

As of now the 2nd option is the most probable. However, the next change in Civilisation might turn things around.

A lot depends on the church... The more liberal churches have increasing acceptance all the time.

But the conservative churches? Don't hold your breath waiting for much change any time soon.

I think they will eventually, plenty of churches and religious people are already accepting.

It's like asking, will we ever have a perfect world, with Justice everywhere? Not that it's bad or foolish to aspire to something you know is impossible, but simply put the answer is no.

The more liberal breeds of Christianity, perhaps. Some already appear to be leaning in that direction.

The hardcore conservative religions, however? Not any time soon.

I can't speak for Christianity, Islam or any other religions but Hinduism. We still follow archaic rituals, customs and traditions. Though there are less traditionalist forms some of us follow, our slightly-modern outlook at religious practices are still not forward enough to accommodate something as huge as LGBT+ acceptance in society.

There will have to loads of reform in thinking and practices before something like that is deemed acceptable or even tolerable in eyes of such religion and elders.

It would take something of a doctrine-wide reformation in Biblical interpretation. I wouldn't expect complete acceptance of LGBT for another 2 or so generations.

They're going to have to eventually. We have marriage equality, we're getting closer to having the same adoption rights as everyone else, and more people are coming out rather than staying in the closet and denying who they are. I think there are a lot more queer people than anyone realizes. And I think someday it won't be a huge deal anymore and religious people will have to accept it, or be ostracized for their bigoted views.

Studies have already shown that the youth today are marginally less religious than previous generations. Why might that be? I've been saying this same thing for years and years and it's true- The Bible is outdated. A lot of the aspects of Christianity especially (and other faiths as well) are irrelevant for modern life. People need to stop pretending that someone other than man wrote that book and it's immune to needing an update. Judaism has different denominations based on how devout you are. Why not Christianity?

Maybe the more hardcore conservative lines will take a lot longer to accept, but I think most will come around eventually. After all, churches need to be filled with people and many are already targeting the gay community. So I do think most Christians (not all, this will never happen) will accept gays, in 20 years or so. Muslims, on the other hand, might take a lot longer though, as most of them live in societies that don't live up to Western ideals, such as individuality.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that maybe due to the Church and State separation [UK], the Church's views will still exist but not over rule the State. [and when I say Church, I mean the organization, not the people].

To answer the title question: Yes and they already do. They tend to be in the minority, but they exist. Don't assume that Christian = anti-gay.

I think it will get closer to that one day once society stops seeing it as a "one or the other" scenario, like if you're LGBT+ you can't be religious, and if you're religious you must hate LGBT+ people's ways.
There are certainly some religious people who are fine with LGBT+ people and homosexuality and some LGBT+ people who are very religious. But people don't pay attention to that so much so it's harder to get religious people to see a need or possibility to break out of their roles.

Most younger Christians are already very accepting, it won't take nearly as long as you think.

Yes, they will become more accepting. Some slower than others, but across the board there is growing acceptance.
