I was chatting with someone the other day, and they commented on the number of blokes that go round with their top button done up on their shirts (without a tie), or their polo shirts, and said it looks geeky and awkward. He said (not realising I'm bi) he's heard someone recently say it was "gay" (which I found rather annoying. :tantrum: ) What do you all think about this, and do you go round like this? I do from time to time and am fine. I'm quite happy with it like that.
That's what I thought. That person was intimating being gay is benig stupid. That's what really annoyed me.
I struggle with this a lot! I'm always sooo tempted to do up my top button but I am aware that sometimes this comes across as more formal - not that there's a problem with that of course, but a button undone looks more relaxed.
I never button the top button of an Oxford (when not wearing a tie) or polo shirt. If I'm wearing a button-up shirt with a tie, then I'll button the top one. I only see the top button being done sans cravat in a geeky-kind-of-way or a fashion magazine, the latter of which can be considered "gay."
Eh, leave the top open. And if you're going to a formal event, you'll usually have to wear a tie of some sort too. But that's just how I feel. I never button the top. I don't like drawing attention to my neck since I don't have much of an Adam's apple.
I find it ridiculous... I thought that only the little white guy that gets bullied at school dressed like that... Now it's called fashion. What the... ?
I leave the top one open. I just think it looks better. If people are going to call me a nerd or gay, there are a lot better reasons than a button being done up
On the rare occasion I do wear a button-up, I don't button the top. It feels restrictive. It's annoying.
Not having my top button done up feels wrong to me, like having my shoelaces untied or flies unzipped.
I consider top button done to be more formal. And maybe geeky. Top button undone to be more casual. Top 2 buttons to be undone to be scandalous...
I think it depends on person's overall look. Sometimes it can look geeky, or preppy, or uptight, or hipstery... I personally try to never do it up.
I'm a woman but I never button the top. I suppose buttoning all the way up looks more formal. I don't think it looks bad, I just love the excuse to show off my boobs.
I think buttoning up all the way to the top is very uncomfortable, so I always leave it open. Usually the second button too, as they're very close together. It does look a bit geeky and awkward but on some guys that's cute
