why do you drink?

    Like it says on the tin, why do you drink alcohol?

    For fun? To forget? For the taste?

    Hmm... It's probably mostly a social thing for me. You know, at parties and stuff I usually have myself a drink or two and might gracefully accept a glass of whatever beverage some kind soul asks me if I want to try.

    I'm soon to be 20 years old, though, which means I can buy alcohol (or strictly speaking, alcoholic beverages with an alcoholic concentration >3,5% (so liqor and stuff). And I think I might have myself one every now and then because it can be kind of relaxing to just have a drink (in most cases sweet drinks, please! Though tequila and gin can be cool without sweet stuff in).

    Pretty much the only reason I drink is because I enjoy the kinds of events/venues where people drink. I like parties, bars, clubs and a lot of people don't seem to be able to enjoy those sort of things without drinking. I'm sort of glad that I came to drinking late--I had my first drink when I was about 23--because I feel like my socialization doesn't really hinge on it the way a lot of people's seem to. I had been going out to gay bars regularly for about a year before I had my first drink and I can nurse a single drink for hours.

    I'm not much of a big drinker (anymore), but I do like to have the occasional beer or wine. I usually drink either if it's an occasion, or if other people are drinking.

    Partly for the effect, partly for the taste.

    Won't drink something that tastes bad for the effect though. Gin, scotch, and vermouth can burn in hell.

    I drink when there's free drinks. Otherwise, I can't be bothered. Oh, and after one particular night a few months ago, vodka and I don't get along anymore. :lol:

    Depends. Sometimes for fun, sometimes to celebrate, sometimes because I'm having a miserable day.

    Like today. I've got half a mind to get absolutely blitzed, just because my Christmases are all miserable and I'm spending this one alone, yet again.

    It makes me more relaxed and outgoing.
    At first I didn't like the taste, but now I think I got used to it or learned to like it. Beer is my favorite kind of drink, followed by wine. I'm not a fan of spirits.

    I don't drink often, but mostly it's because I like the taste of some things. And for fun.
    Like when I wrapped presents this year. I was drinking, wrapping and watching movies. All my gifts were misshapen. :lol:

    I won't drink anything I don't like the taste of. And my taste has shifted quite a bit over the last 30 years!

    But I drink alcohol for the same reason I drink coffee/tea; for the same reason I take Ibuprofen/Acetaminophen; for the same reason I eat chocolate...it has an effect that serves my purposes at the time!

    Mostly social reasons and it can be fun to be altered at times. Plus I enjoy the taste of (most) beer and a multitude of other drinks.

    Don't drink much, but there are special moments when drink is mandatory...

    New Years' - I MUST get drunk, do silly stuff and talk to everyone. I can't afford champagne, so I drink whatever cheap substitute is at hand.
    Summertime - It is beer time, black beer and at room temperature.
    Autumn - As I lived in Berlin, Glühwein on street markets was a must, and I'm looking forward to get back to this, but doesn't feel the same somehow.
    All year 'round - Good vodka once or twice a month, during the weekends (got a job to keep). Screwdrivers are life. A good friend of mine introduced me to finnish vodka, Koskenkorva, and I must have some kind of genetic compatibility 'cause it just felt right...
    Also I used to be a sucker for Cuba Libre, but it gives me awful hangovers. Still, if you offer me a Mojito, I'll say yes anytime.

    Banned -> Whiskey... Have tried all kinds, from cheap to expensive, irish, scottish... No results except intense regreat. I never got drunk on whiskey 'cause I just can't finish one drink, can't stand the taste.
    Bayleys -> Used to like it, but now I can't drink it.
    Wine -> I was never into wine, except some Rioja, and the last bottle I bought was a year ago. It takes months for me to finish a bottle of wine on my own.

    I never drink to forget. Alcohol is to me something that is there to relax and enjoy yourself. I've known alcoholics and the things I saw were enough to prevent me from becoming one ever.

    I hate getting drunk, but I love a good drink. To me, it's just a way to relax. You sit down after a long day, grab a cold one and chill out.
