December 28th was the one year anniversary of Leelah Alcorn's death, a transgender teen who committed suicide, bringing a lot of attention to suicide within the trans community. Here's information on her suicide: Transgender community marks anniversary of Leelah Alcorn's death, renews teen's call to 'fix society' - Story If you want to read her suicide note in full: Leelah Alcorn, transgender teen from Ohio, should be honored in death. Rest in power, Leelah. I wish I could've done something, anything, to be able to help you feel valued the way you should've been. But you're gone now, so the least I can do is try and help fulfill your final wish- to make a change. Even if the most I can do is try and help those on this site, I want to make a difference. When I first read of your death, I cried, I was so emotionally overcome by your situation and hardship. So I want to help make that change. Nobody should feel pushed to suicide, no matter their situation. If you are feeling suicidal, PLEASE message me. I will talk to you for as long as it takes.
Rest in power. The world better get its ass in gear. This should never happen again. No-one should ever be made to feel like suicide is their only option. My inbox is open if anyone needs help.
Rest in Power. Honestly, these suicides are heart breaking, I can't count how many times Leelah's suicide letter made me cry. I wish she was still here. I'm also open to talk to if anyone needs to. If you are feeling suicidal don't bottle your emotions and feelings up inside, let them out and please please talk to us. Suicide is never the way out, there is always help and support available.
How have I not heard about this until now. Shame on me. This is a sad story she had dreadful parents who should be ashed of themselves. I'm here for you all just as you have been here for me. If you need somebody to talk to message me anytime.
Rest in Power, Leelah! I was so sad when I heard about this. D: I wish I could have been there for her. If anyone is going through a rough period and needs someone to talk to, don't be afraid to message me!
To everyone out there but in particular to my trans siblings, live your life. Do it for her and more importantly do it for yourself.
Thanks for sharing. I hate that anyone feels like suicide is the only answer. We need more love and understanding and less judgement.
I'm sorry of I offend anyone but this is my opinion. Suicide is not the answer. I feel like she could've done something besides taking her own life. I haven't read her suicide letter, so I don't know if it'll change my opinion. I know that her parents are assholes, but she couldn't have waited until she moved out? I just don't like suicide because you shouldn't take your life just to "fix society".
rest in power. I haven't heard this story either but I'll be sure to share it with the qsa at school in January. this shouldn't have to happen but I feel like it's going to happen alot more before the world gets the picture.
Rest in Power Leelah! I know how she felt, I have survived a suicide attempt that was partially based on my gender dysphoria. If you need someone to talk to I can always listen, cause I assure you, I have been there! (*hug*)
