Do you think LGBT people should avoid travelling to anti-LGBT countries

I mean, can't they arrest you in those places just for being (or seeming) LGBT? And plus not all LGBT people can keep up the cisgender heterosexual act. Some guys just can't help their feminine mannerisms and some girls can't help their masculine mannerisms as well. And many anti-gay people have ignorantly accepted the stereotypes of LGBT people.

Or perhaps I'm blowing it all out of proportion since I'm forgetting that a few EC users live in anti-LGBT countries. But I was wondering, does any EC users who live in (or travel to) anti-LGBT countries - and I'm talking about the countries that will go out of their way to imprison or kill you - try to hide their LGBTness? Like do you try to suppress any type of behaviour that would make you easy to identify? Or do you just keep expressing your personality?

I don't know the laws of anti gay countries or what they would do to gay tourists but it would be a cold day in hell before I travel somewhere's risking my life to spend money helping a bigoted countries economy.

I think one ought definitely to take heed; but if one wants to travel to Iran, then, well, if one is trans and can't pass (like, really pass) - then one should wear clothes fit to one's assigned gender, or don't go. How fun that is, well... Depends on the person, I guess. I'd prefer to go somewhere else.

While one should definitely take caution going to different countries, I also think you shouldn't completely cross off those countries from your list. I definitely want to travel in the Middle East some day, as I would definitely love to see the birthplace of civilization as we know it. Doing your research on what that countries laws do to tourists would be the best idea.

I think so. Risking my life and feeding their economy is just too much of a con.

I actually was born in an anti-LGBT country( saudi arabia), where they can behead if they find out you're gay. Luckily i moved when i was 7, so i don't know exactly what it's like to be gay there, but i have an idea. It's hadically if you mind you're own buisiness and keep it to yourself, none will care. Just be secretive, and try not to get caught, because someone might report on you if they find, i think. So basically, it's not a good idea for lgbt's to travel to anti-LGBT countries. Especially when we have IDIOTS like yayeh jammeh, the president of gambia, who says he will personally kill any gays he finds in gambia...so yeah, not a good idea.

Yeah, you have a point about keeping to yourself and what not. And thank goodness you got out of that situation when you could.

The thing I don't get is how LGBT people who can't pass as cisgender or heterosexual are faring living in anti-LGBT countries that jail you or kill you for that. I mean wouldn't someone have already ratted them all out to the authorities by now just by merely "looking" or "acting" gay, even in a small way?

I'd really like to hear from any LGBT people who are living in those kinds of countries and are "obvious" if you know what I mean (and hopefully) I didn't offend anyone using the quoted term. Do you have to learn to act in that kind of situation?

I think I'd do okay in Russia. I pass as straight and I'm cis. I probably wouldn't travel to Africa or the Middle East because it's not safe for straight and cis people either.

There's no reason I'd want to visit the likes of Saudi Arabia anyway - they simply don't interest me - but I'd like to visit Malaysia, even though they carry penalties for same-sex activities. I'd like to visit the Philippines and Thaialnd too, but as far as I'm aware they don't carry penalties for same-sex activity, even if the general population are somewhat hostile.

FWIW, there's a 'gay travel index' for anyone interested, ranking the best and worst places to go as an LGBT individual..
