Semi-random question of the day. How do you hold the steering wheel?

    10 and 2?

    9 and 3?

    One-handed at 12?

One handed at 5, 6, or 7? (I can't find an image, but it's cruising along with one hand at the bottom of the wheel.) That's what I do, I have my right hand on the wheel and my left hand free for my turn signal or to eat as I'm driving. So what say you, good people of EC?

I hold it right handed at 6. It's most comfortable for me. My left hand is free to hold onto the Gear-Rod or fiddle with the Air-Conditioning and the Music Player.

One hand at 3 usually unless I need to turn or I'm on a curved road or something then maybe 9 and 3

Most of the time, I drive one handed at twelve, but if I'm on a busier road, 9 and 3. My driving instructor told me this positioning is less likely to get you broken arms if the air bag deploys

You know what's weird? When I learned, it was 10 and 2. Then, I taught drivers Ed for a couple of years back in my 20s, and at that time, the recommended position was 9 and 3. Then, I read somewhere that it had changed again, this time to 8 and 4.

Honestly, 10 and 2 is pretty much best in terms of balancing and controlling the car. If you hit something small, have a blowout, or lose a tie rod, 10 and 2 will give you the best shot at keeping control of the car. If you have a single hand on the wheel, regardless of where it is, the wheel will be jerked out of your hand by a sudden hit... Or if it is not, you will be inclined to oversteer which is just as likely to cause an accident as the original event itself.

Usually, I alternate between 9 and 3 or just one hand at 9 with my elbow on the window and the other hand next to the shifter. if I'm on a curvy or rough road I stick to 9 and 3 except to shift.

In driver's ed, they teach you not to rest your arm, But I was taught that when you are towing something it helps with making smaller adjustments and avoiding trailer sway.

On the highway 10 and 2 or 9 and 3. If I'm just cruising around on the streets I will normally just hold onto one of the sides of the steering well.

Didn't know that, and I didn't know that either. I just feel like it's easier and more relaxed on long trips to drive along with one hand. I read somewhere that 10 and 2 is a good way to break both your arms if you get in an accident and the airbag deploys.

    Left handed at 7-8 o'clock.

My arm rests on my knee the whole time, and my fingers can easily flip the signals from that position. My right arm is free to do other things like mess with my music playlist or eat. I only two-hand when I'm on a tough mountain road or something.

10/2 is most comfortable for me, although when I was learning I tried to get away with 8/5 as often as possible.
But I'll probably be learning to drive our manual car soon, so I'll have to figure out this one-handed thing

Oh, I've never really thought about this funnily enough. I think I tend to drive 10/2 or one hand at 12 although I'm not sure exactly how often for both. Also when I drove to Arizona I remember doing one at 5 or 6 because my arms were getting tired.

Generally speaking, one handed right at the bottom, so my arm rests on my leg. Unless there's bad weather, then I put the hand higher up for better control.

I'd have to say 12 and 3:30ish or one handed at 12 or 6; yep, I can be a lazy driver some times
