I laughed so hard when he said this and I was probably supposed to be offended but this is what he said-

"That explains your gay ass haircut" - My friend 2k16

When you are not sure how you should feel, it is generally better to laugh than to take offense. Laughing makes you happy while taking offense makes you feel hurt. Anyway, congrats on coming out!

The way I see it, he's just saying that he doesn't care and that it doesn't change anything about you two.

If he didn't start calling you a fag or whatever and just made a joke on your haircut, it clearly wasn't mean to offend you. Or yeah, a bit, but as far as friendship goes.

Plus its always good to have self-humor (is that the right phrase ?) not to take things too seriously

Well, it depends on how he said it. If he said it with a humorous or with a derogatory undertone.

But laughing hard is the best reaction either way .

It's good that your friend feels comfortable enough with your sexuality that he can joke with it, if he felt awkward or weird about it he'd have given a much more serious response, so think of it as a good thing!
