i think they do a good job.
its hard being the boss though.
they have to enforce rules and delete things that are against the rules.
and i know i would never want to have to do that

Yeah... I think the only way to get an accurate, representative answer to that question would be to host the survey somewhere where the moderators can't see who answers what.

Most people are pretty unwilling to say things that might make them unpopular if how they voted was identified. This is especially true if one's saying negative things about people who hold a lot of power.

Plus, to be fair, a yes/no question doesn't really capture any kind of the complexity which moderating entails. Someone might say "no" because they think the moderators should be harsher with people who are annoying or bend/break rules but someone else might answer "no" because they think the moderators are far too harsh with people who are annoying or bend/break rules.

One way to do survey construction is to use a series of declarative statements with which people have a range of options from disagree to agree or strongly disagree to strongly agree... stuff like that. Even that is prone to flaws because one person's interpretation of "disagree" might be a lot stronger than someone else's. But it would definitely give you more information to work with.

There is absolutely nobody who is going to be 100% happy 100% of the time so I think if we're doing a fairly good job keeping everybody safe and happy about 85% of the time, then we're doing good.

Since joining EC I've found that the staff do a exemplary job. I've had to administer a few small forums myself and know how tough it can be even at a small scale, so I really appreciate the jobs that the staff here do.
