Hey, guys! So, my younger sister has never really showed any defined interests and has always felt really uneasy and bothered by this but recently she has told me she has been interested in Psychology and asked me if I could get her some Psychology books to explore this new interest. I'm a bookworm but I'm not very familiar with Psychology books (unfortunately, because I like them) so I was wandering if there are any of you LGBT+ psychologists or enthusiasts out here who would kindly recommend a book that is appropriate for a beginner, precocious 14 year old girl. Thank you! ^^
Is there any specific area or psychology she's interested in? Forensic psychology, behavioural psychology, social psychology? That may help with getting specific book recommendations. I would of suggested stuff by Freud, Malcolm Gladwell and the like, for her, but I don't know whether they'd be deemed 'appropriate' for a 14-year-old. They may to be your taste though.
Sounds like me when I was in middle school. If she's only starting to dive into the concept of psychology, I'd honestly start with more stuff that's geared for mainstream audiences. Then if she wants to learn more, she can always explore heavier stuff like Freud, Jung and whoever. - If she likes Harry Potter: The Psychology of Harry Potter - For basic info and myth busting: 50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology - Quiet (a book about introverts) - The Social Animal - Yes!: 50 Scientically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive
OMG I was obsessed with psychology when I was in middle school! But looking back on it pretty much all of the books I read were sort of shit. I could only give you recommendations of what NOT to read. Haha (!) The books you suggested sound really interesting though. The psychology of Harry Potter, I might have to read that...
What aspect of psychology interests her? Having an idea of what she found interesting will make it a lot easier to find something she likes.
