Haha, odd that this should be mentioned, considering I just bought my flights to go tonight! A friend of mine lives in Sydney and I've been planning to go and visit her, and she invited me along to the mardi gras.

Never been to one before, and I've only been in Sydney for 2 hours stuck in the airport waiting for a transfer flight to Cairns, so I couldn't tell you anything about the place.

I often wish i could have gone to the sydney mardigras. I used to live in sydney, and used to work there. The media shows the 'out there' stuff, which may shock folks . Then that becomes the attraction !! the colour and excitement. The gayness ! so what was it really like for you? what did you see from up in the tree ? Paul

it was amazing paul.
we couldnt see much from the ground, (but could see practicly everything from the tree)
next time i go, i will pay the $20 to get into a club and sit in the window.
at atmosphere is just.. uplifting..
everyone that goes, is there to support the gay community.
(and suprisingly there were alot of straight people there) not what i expected..

i really recoment you go if you get the chance...
or even to one of the events in the previous 3 weeks (the parade is the final event) it starts on feb 14th - march 7th..

I'm doing a study abroad in Sydney this semester and am thinking about going to Mardi Gras. any tips? suggestions? It seems really expensive to buy a ticket to the after dance....Tips on what to wear? Can you meet people there? Trying to make friends in Sydney!

----------

And which part do you suggest going to? the parade seems insanely too many people to me...should I brave it out? Or try a different option..like the dance or something?
