Here's the article. Personally, I'd probably be mortified, but I appreciate the sentiment.

Yikes. The sentiment is cute, it really really is, but my heart goes out to that poor bastard. It wasn't so long since I was a teen myself that I can't sympathize with the crushing embarrassment this would bring. It will pass, but damn. On the plus side, yay for [UTTERLY CLUELESS] parents that accept you!

Well, the newspaper required consent from the son before printing it so I presume it's not a problem. Plus this is not even the said guy's local newspaper so it's unlikely many people from his town even see this.

From the article it is obvious this is a political statement and not about her son. But yes, it would be utter nightmare if someone from my family sent such an ad about me to my local paper.

I think it's very cute but at the same time I'm glad its not me because I like to tell people myself

I like to see the good part of it. His parents were happy and proud. I would assume only a proud parent, maybe wanting to show the son off, would do such a thing. Positivism all the way!

Imagine the awkwardness and embarrassment of mom celebration, multiply by infinity. There is no "Oh MOOOM!" lound enough to convey this kind of embarrassment.

I would be mortified. That is just like telling the whole town that we aren't straight. Those parents are clues but I guess they are trying to do something nice.

I can see where some would think this is a bit over the top. But I think it's really sweet how supportive she is. I wish she would adopt me! XD

I would be beyond embarrassed, but the son gave permission and had posted a coming out video on youtube -- if he's okay with it, then I'm glad his family is so supportive and not the kind to want to conceal it from others. It's sweet.

Then is ok... He wasn't outed by the parents.

Yeah, it's very sweet of them, the very opposite of what will the people say? They showed they are proud of their son, and also showed another people, to have a gay son is something to be proud of.

    Win - win...

Apparently the paper asked for his permission before printing it. So hopefully it didn't come as a shock to him.

I think it's kinda cute and if I was him, I'm pretty sure I'd see the funny side.

That would be a death sentence where I spent my middle and high school years. Seriously, not joking or embellishing.

Good to know there are places in the world where such such a thing is safe and accepted.

Sorry, that's too much. I value those who come out one by one. It is his decision, and I respect that. It just seems narcissistic to me on behalf of the mother.

Super embarrassing:icon_redf! If that were to happen to me (which I won't) (hopefully) I probably would get a
new identity and move to new Zealand. If that does happen it'll be VideoGAYmerNZ.

Wow, missed the point completely but it's nice the patents are cool with their son.

    Cute, but cringe-worthy.

    Utterly, utterly, cringe-worthy.
