So I attempted suicide last week and was sent to a mental hospital. They refused to respect my pronouns of chosen name. They also had a rule that boys couldn't sit next to girls and it took a lot of protesting to let me sit with the girls..... ---------- Post added 25th Jan 2016 at 04:02 PM ---------- Also out of the eight adolescents there, six were lgbt
well, they seem way too strict there but that's how every public institution (and sometimes private too) works out, at least the ones i know, did you get to talk to those other adolescents in similar experience there?
Wow! I'm sorry that happened to you! You should've said that them not using your proper pronouns was making you even more suicidal. That's what I would've said. Btw if you ever wanna talk just message me on my wall! (*hug*)
Yea all the lgbt people stuck together. The patients called me Justine and respected my pronouns, but the staff got salty when I politely asked to have my gender identity respected, and said that "all the trans people that come through are just attention seekers."
whoa, i hope the one that said that is not a therapist because it would make it a terrible one, in some cases you can report these kind of misconduct from them (of course you need evidence but a simple voice record might do if you need to get back) not sure how they treat those legal aspects there, but reporting a disrespectful behavior from a staff or doctor is always an option
Holy fuck that's horrible!! Especially ignorant after, ya know, you almost committing suicide. :***: By the way, my wall is always open if you need to talk. (*hug*)
I'm so sorry you went through all of that. I hope you're doing better now. Mental Hospitals are seriously mental lol. I went through a similar phase years ago. The Doctors were convinced I was going through a phase of being gay. They're just not comfortable with the idea of LGBTQ+ which sucks.
The hospital could certainly give an etiquette training, but I'm going to give them the benefit of doubts and think they had worked nasty shifts. The way you were treated was still inexcusable though.
WTF is wrong with those people? I dislike it in general when people don't show respect to other humans but this is just way over the line; and telling that to someone who has attempted suicide is just plain stupid. Good thing you're out ( I'm assuming you were dismissed anyway, cause you kept talking in past tense ) I hope you feel better soon(*hug*)
omg... they should just be fired on the spot if they said that... sorry to hear that happened. stay strong, sister. xx
