AFAIK, it isn't against the rules to ask if people play a game, nor is it against the rules to discuss games that people play. However, you will get into trouble if you ask people for their in-game name (if it is a MMO or the like) or if people post their in-game name.

That is correct. Discussing what games you play etc is fine. But giving or asking for gaming IDs, names or whatever is against the rules. Anything that could allow contact between members off-site can only be shared by PMs between full members. We have seen a couple of cases where people have posted screenshots with their names shown, so don't try this...
