What is your least favorite stereotype about your orientation? Mine is the whole man hater thing. Some of my closest friends are guys. I only hate a guy if he is an @$$.

I hate the assumption from some straight people that gay guys are hitting on every male they come into contact with. Just like a straight guy isn't attracted to every female he sees, gay guys aren't attracted to every male we see.

When a naive guy thinks like this, my thinking is, "We have standards, don't flatter yourself."

That's definitely another big thing for me. Yeah, I like girls. I may think a lot of girls are attractive, but that doesn't mean I'm going to make a move on you! I have the same thinking.

A message to all straight people: If someone of your sex tells you they are gay and you instantly assume they are going to hit on you, don't flatter yourself. We all have some type of standard, just like you do.

A lot of people assume my sexuality isn't real and that I'm just "half way out of the closet" or that I'm just being selfish. I hear this even from people I don't know! It's all over the internet and really it's a pain. And some people have a problem with it because I don't care about femininity in a guy or masculinity in a girl, and when the whole gender identity comes in people just don't understand unless they're LGBT to begin with! I like the person. Anatomy if cool and all, but I just want someone that makes me happy and someone I can be good enough for and make them happy, and if that's being selfish, I'll gladly be the most selfish person in the world. After struggling with sexuality and identity issues most of my childhood, I think I deserve to be with a good person regardless of gender.

Some people prefer just one gender/sex and that's totally okay, but just because I like all doesn't make my sexuality imaginary.

Also that people assume I'm attracted to everyone.I had a straight friend ask me why i wouldn't want to sleep with them.I mean they aren't even into me sexually...

That we are all feminine, that all gay people work in the fashion industry, etc. I don't have a problem with gay people who are more feminine that's just who they are. Its just that when people find out I'm gay they say that im a mechanic so its not "believable" that im gay just because im not feminine.

Yeah, the whole gay = effeminate thing irks me to no end. I was on a date with a guy one time and after 20 minutes he stopped me and said "are you sure you're gay?"

In fact 2 weeks ago I was in your fair city for NAMM and one of the guys noticed my pride bracelet after we'd been chatting for a few minutes. "Are you gay? You're not very stereotypical at all." :tantrum:

I have been asked more than once how often I have slept with more than one girl at a time. I don't know if lesbians having constant orgies is an actual stereotype, but it kinda seems like some straight men think we just sleep with any woman we meet. I hate that.

Bisexuals always end up cheating. Some people even refuse to date bisexuals because of that stereotype.

I am not really bisexual but it's close enough and people generally understand what it means so mostly I am out as a bisexual. Somehow I really just don't have energy to explain to pretty much everybody what pansexual, polysexual or demisexual means. I am not even sure how I should label myself. And I am bored with that "so you like pans HAHAHAA!" -joke.

I hate the stereotype that as a very feminine girl you can't be a "genuine" lesbian and this stereotype that if two lesbians are having sex, they immediately turn straight when a dick shows up in the room (like in porn). This is so plain stupid.

That bisexuals are constantly participating in orgies. That we're into animals, children, and whatever else constitutes "anything with a pulse". That we're to blame for the spread of HIV and other diseases.

Of course, this is assuming the other person doesn't deny our existence.

The ironic thing is about this is that this his how anyone gay or lesbian was perceived not even 30 years ago, yet now we're perceived as this even from our own community sometimes. What went wrong there? :eusa_doh:

i dont like any of the gay stereotypes. There are a lot of shitty gay people out there, and a lot more who aren't shitty. Somehow the shitty ones set the standards.

I don't like the ones that lead homophobic and overly aggressive straight guys to think that just b/c someone is gay they're weak or a pushover; my sexuality doesn't determine my ability to kick your ass nor does it mean you can disrespect me without getting checked.

Honorable Mentions: The stereotype that we're all extremely animated, parade around in tight clothing, makeup, and high heels. In addition to the one about us wanting every straight guy, this sometimes causes other straight guys to not want to be around a gay guy b/c of the fear of us "hitting on them" .. it's funny 'cause it be the ugliest ones that think that.
