Does anyone have any tips for taking a drive test? I've failed twice now, and am taking my third test tomorrow. I really want to pass. I think most of the problem is when I take the test, I get so nervous I forget things. Like, for example, the last time I took the test I parallel parked right before and got it right, but on the test I couldn't even remember which way to turn the wheel first.
I never took a driving test before, but maybe take deep breaths and talk to yourself. IDK. I guess the best way to think of it is of a exam you normally would have at school. What would you do before a test normally. Think of it as any test you'd normally have.
Don't think of it as a test. Think about it like you're driving with a parent, or an aunt or uncle. Just a person sitting next to you telling you where to go.
You might have been thinking of it too systematically, aka "first do this thing, then this, then this in order" without forming a complete understanding of what you're doing. The old "memorize it for the test" method so popular in school, despite that it impeded learning. As far as which way to turn the wheel when parallel parking, the answer is "whichever way makes the car do what you intend." The more intuitively you know the relationship of the steering wheel and the road wheels, that stress will not detract from your driving ability. The thing that nearly got me in my driving test was using the turn signal. If you're doing anything more substantial than dodging a pothole in your lane, use your signal. I got docked for not using it when pulling into a regular parking space in the lot, but thankfully passed. The rest was just road rules and not crashing into anything.
