    FAQs

"The GLSEN Day of Silence is a student-led national event that brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Students from middle school to college take a vow of silence in an effort to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior by illustrating the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBT students and those perceived to be LGBT".

It's not just American students, students from around the world can participate.

The day is April 15th, 2016.

    Will you participate?

I'm pretty solitary now, but back when I was in school I was always too afraid to do anything like that. The majority of people here are just so... ugh.

I'm sure the teachers would love the idea everywhere... For the wrong reasons

It's during my school's Pride Month so I'm sure we'll be doing something for it.

I do every year. It's a pretty big thing at my school. I think last year there were like 100 people who did it. That's like 1/20 of my school population.

It's very difficult for me to go through a day of labs and lectures without talking, short of learning sign language. Sorry.

I'm not in school right now so it doesn't make a difference. But if I was still in school AND had accepted my sexuality back then, I would participate in the GLSEN Day of Silence. I think it's a great idea and didn't even know about it until now.

Well, fudge. When I read this I wanted to, but then I saw that the date is the same day as my matric dance (prom?) oh well I'm quite introverted so staying quiet most of the time will be easy for me. Hmm, this is quite interesting, seeing as I was thinking of going in a suit even if I go to a girls' only school (well I guess they're bringing dates idk) but I'm so scared XD

I'm a teacher. I'd be doing it myself, but I have an obligation to teach my students to the best of my ability which requires speech.

But by any means they can participate in it. In fact I hope they do.

Unfortunately, as of now it doesn't seem like a possibility. 15th April lands on a Friday here, and I'm not in college on Fridays. And I'm not out to my parents, so I can hardly do it at home. Well I suppose I have three options, do it and say I'm just an outside supporter for the cause, come out between now and 15th March and take part in the day, or I leave it and treat it like a normal day. Actually, I have four options- I could come out on this whole GLSEN day, but that might just make it seem attention seeking. So I guess my answer is: probably not. :frowning2:

Good luck to anyone participating though!
