    Hey everyone,

My friends and I were talking about LGBT rights today in the Middle East, Russia, Africa, etc., and I don't think the laws re: homosexuality there would matter to me as I can 'hide' it, so I'd travel to all of these places, except Russia. I plan to go to Kenya and a few other African countries within the next few years.

Would anyone else go to a country where your sexuality is taboo and/or illegal?

    Thanks,

    Joe.

I would never go there cause I wouldn't want to have to hide myself at all. Freedom is good.

Yep. I just travel there not like I'm going to live there. I'm not advertising.

It depends on the laws of the country. If they were super anti-gay and LGBT people were like getting killed or beaten up or something I wouldn't go. Because of my own safety and because of the way the people there are willing to treat other human beings and the rest of the people not really doing anything to stop it. I live in a country right next to Russia and I'm pretty glad I wasn't born in there because the lack of laws protecting gay people freaks me out. But I could travel there (if someone payed for me).

If it's a country where it's actually dangerous to go, I wouldn't. I care about my safety, after all.

If it's a country where people are just intolerant, then yes. There would be parts that are more accepting and it's not like I'm screaming it on rooftops. I wouldn't live there, though.

I probably would, especially if I was single at the time. However, if the country had a lot of safety issues, not just for gay people, then I wouldn't go. I value my life

If it's socially taboo but not illegal, I'll still go. If homosexuality is actually illegal then I'm not getting within 1,000 miles of that place.
I've had a few nightmares about Saudi Arabia.
I once created a map of the world called "the good world" where I edit out countries where homosexuality is illegal as part of the oceans. I looked at the map and thought, "This is the world, where I can go".

    Not unless I had too.
I'd rather spend my money in a place where I am accepted just the way I am, and where nobody cares if my tshirt has a gay slogan on it.

Yeah, I would travel to countries where homosexuality is illegal. I just wouldn't let it be known of my orientation. As for living in a country where homosexuality is illegal, no I wouldn't. I can enjoy a country irregardless of its laws, but if it's illegal I wouldn't want to stay there for too long.

I would, I have done and I see no problem with just traveling there. Living is another matter entirely, but as a tourist, why not? We have to see both sides to understand firstly how good it is for us and, secondly, what we're up against.

I wouldn't want to give money to countries that support homophobia/transphobia.

And thinking from a trans perspective, maybe as a trans guy I'd be a little bit safer, but a non-100% passing trans woman? Definitely a dangerous situation to be in.

Sure. I hear it's pretty easy to find gay men in places like Morocco.. or at least men who have sex with men. I think I'd have fun.

I do agree with that, but there's a few of those countries that I'd really like to visit if given the chance. So I'm not really sure.

Living in a place like that atm. Just mostly taboo instead of explicitly illegal, so I get it better than others, but still, I want to get out.
