I'm going to find out if I have the "gay gene"

I took a DNA test for other reasons. My results probably won't arrive until the end of the month. I don't really believe in a gay gene, but I'll still search for it. If it turns out I do have a "gay gene" I'll use it as "proof" for my sexual orientation. Or at least I'll use it as a fun icebreaker.

Well, when you find it I'm sure Stockholm might give you a call.

I won't show it to people. Or maybe I'll just pretend to be straight.

Why would you need to 'prove' your orientation?

It is important to remind everyone, for the sake of good scientific information, that there are no tests that reveal the presence of a "gay gene".

Even if all scientific evidence points to the existence of genetic information related to orientation, there isn't any conclusive evidence of that (it is a strong theory, but still a theory), and thus, there aren't any scientific approved tests to detect a gay gene.

That may change in the future (and there is a pretty good chance of that happening) but, for now, we can't prove anything with a 100% precision.

Hi, the gay gene you cannot search for, for it is impossible to find.

As I understand it, there is no "gene" for being gay. They believe it likely has to do with the embryo getting too much of some sort of hormone from the mother (estrogen maybe?). There are brain scan studies which indicate certain areas of gay males' brains act more similar to that of female brains than straight males.

You don't find the gay gene, the gay gene finds you. (Sorry)

Anywhoosle, I hope you find out. I like looking at genes and DNA for fun myself. ^-^

Chances are the DNA test you took is only for certain markers, not your entire genome (which would be more than a thousand dollars just to get the raw data). As others have mentioned, there is no known "gay gene" that can be 100% correlated with sexuality (conversely, there are no genes that explain heterosexuality), and it's likely not going to be a case of presence or absence of genes but different levels of "expression" (the genetic information transformed into some product, like a hormone).

Because I'm feminine looking. I'm also way too suggestible. I've been faking interest in guys for way too long. I might still be kind of bi. It would be nice to see if I have a gay gene. If I do it will be nice to have something concrete proving that I'm fundamentally different than the average bicurious straight girl.

I know this isn't an actual test for my sexual orientation. It would still be nice to know if I have a "gay gene". Even though I know it's kind of BS.
