Is the name of the site saying no one is in the closet here. Idk I just feel like it means something...
For me personally it means two things: - the aim to give everyone the chance to come out of the closet, even if it is only here on EC - leave no one behind, do it together
I don't know that we've ever officially taken a position on what it means. But I think Harif has the right idea. To me, it's about helping people realize they have an option, and encouraging people to be open, honest and authentic with themselves.
It could also mean to make sure there are empty closets in the future (Meaning at some point of time where no one has to be in the closet anymore)
I always just thought it was like a mission statement. The aim of the site is for the closets to be empty because everyone's out and happy.
For me it's the ultimate goal or vision of ANYONE who has ever had the inkling to join or browse the site. The closet wants to be "empty." People hate feeling shut off or unsure of themselves. So yeah, I believe Empty Closets was possibly named this way to symbolize the goal of LGBT+ people and what they hope to achieve in their lives. I like Phoenix's idea too. The name represents an outlook on the future and part of the collective goal.
I always invisioned is as a gathering of people within LGBT+ where they all could meet together, which is why it's closets as opposed to a closet, they're empty because we all come out of the closet here with each other. So in a way the empty closets are like our parking lot while we're in a meeting here together. We came out of the closet when we got here, and unfortunately we might return to them when we leave this site.
I've always thought the goal was to make everyone who comes here feel comfortable in questioning their sexuality/gender identity and eventually come to terms to it, leaving their closet, even if only to themselves.
No I think it means it's a safe community for lesbian gay bisexual and transgender people to Seek help and support it's to help people with issues related To LGBT and if there not out help support the person in coming out because it's a very tough time sometimes
+1 I've always interpreted this as a vision that one day everyone who is LGBT will be out and not in the closet and that this vision is achieved one person's closet at a time.
