An interesting watch. It would be good to also look at some gay appeareances in more recent times. I recently watched the UKs The Thick Of It and noticed that in its first two series (made in 2005) there are way way more homophobic insults that in the last two series (made in '09 '12)
Its funny how attitudes can change in a decade. Suddenly calling someone gay as an insult becomes unacceptable on the BBC.

Anyway, heres a gay story line from one of my favourite old shows - its about a gay schoolboy coming out:

Interesting video. Was hoping that he can go a little further and point out a few Friends episodes, which comes in the later 1990's.

Just 5 years after that Golden Girls episode, Friends in January 1996 makes an episode about a lesbian wedding and actually portraits it in a good way. It's one of my favorite sitcoms and it goes on to have the lesbian couple, Carol and Susan, raising a child. Ross, Carol's ex-husband and biological father of their child, encourages her to go through with the wedding and lets his ex-wife find love again. It started in 1994, a time where the issue of LGBT acceptance was still a highly controversial topic.

Matt Baume consistently posts good content. I highly recommend that those who like this video check out his other videos.

Roseanne had a gay wedding episode in the mid 90s. I don't know if Home Improvement ever tackled the LGBT issue.

I think Roseanne was a real deal breaker for gay tv. Especially because Roseanne kisses a woman on the show and that had never happened on tv before.

Suprised to know that M*A*S*H* a gay episode! It's so great that shows all those years ago were progressive, it sort of makes me nostalgic for a time i never saw.
