I remember incidents where I was embarrassingly illiterate at social interactions. Ugh. Face-palming just thinking about it. I've outgrown most of it, most people tell me I'm social; but I definitely still have some residual awkward and I just feel like my brain works funny... that being said I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Who says childhood? I really still am  Whatever the definition of 'nerdy' is now anyways, who knows.

Naw, I had my interests but I knew when and how to switch so people wouldn't freak out.

My teenager years were different, but even then nobody would call me nerd.

Answer: I still am, of course

People, if they even bothered to conjure up any sort of interaction with me, it would limit to asking me if I'm alright or ask me about my fish for which I mainly was known for. A lot of people at my school assumed I can't speak English, even though after 2 years (1 year in of secondary school) I already understood all what teachers said xD

And maybe few bullies sensing that I can be quite sensitive tried targetting me in earlier years. You know that bunch of arrogant losers who think they're superior that every school has. In Year 7 one girl asked me if I am "spasticated" and laughed that I didn't know what it meant. In Year 8 some idiot yr7 girls followed me around school calling me names because I revealed I had a pet mouse. Seriously??

In the older years I've begun to grow paranoid that people are gossiping behind my back... But in reality nothing at all was said, like ever, I was just so irrelevant. I dunno if that's not equally as bad though.

And of course it only occurred to many that I CAN speak English after all and that I am actually smart when our GCSE results came in and I had the 6th best result, and the people #3-7 all had pretty close results anyway. 1 A* 8 As pour moi

Always had few Friends, but thankfully that meant no drama, and at least in their eyes I was a bit on a legend and even after months of silence they can get back to me for help, and that feels really great. I don't mind we don't talk everyday anymore as I can be a bit of a loner at times. The only thing... none of my Friends know that I'm gay. But I prefer it that way.

I admit until Year 10 I had a much better work ethic, which worsened further in A2. I've just grown more and more depressed and lost any motivation whatsoever to do work. I feel like a failure every day and deep inside I realise no matter how well I perform at school, it isn't going to win the Love of my Life's heart. But well, I just don't see myself getting at least A*AA at A-Levels, if I don't - that's what will eventually kill me.

When somebody can point out a valid reason that being a nerd is a bad thing, I'll start worrying about it.

I'm a childhood nerd, and can't see myself growing out of it. Maths is my passion.

I was the nerd throughout my school career. Now I'm still a nerd but there are things I don't really nerd about like I did in high school. I'm a nerd for different things and some aren't stereotypical "nerd" pursuits.

As a kid I could identify every second world war aircraft, including prototypes. I also knew the history of the development rocket engines, including early soviet rocketry. This was before the collapse of the 'iron curtain'
So basically I was an uber-nerd.

As a kid I was pretty nerdy academically. It was one of the things I was bullied for. I was outright weird with bad social skills and low confidence so obviously I was going to be targeted. At college getting good grades is seen as being cooler than failing (like school) and no one really gives a shit about others. The only thing that apparently makes me a 'nerd' is going to the library during free periods to revise - but that's just between friends. I'm still kind of awkward but I wouldn't call myself a nerd at all, not anymore, I'm just your average college kid.

Yeah, I'd say so. I've always been awkward as hell (still am now at 33), but thankfully I've always had friends, even if it was just a few.

I was pretty nerdy on religions, languages, and history growing up, not that anything's changed. I won like 3 bible trivia contests at my uncle's church as a kid, and i made a little bible story comic book thingy for my teacher in the fourth grade. My school came second place in a local trivia contest by 1 point, and not to toot my horn or anything, but thanks to me. So yeah, i used to be really big on that stuff, but nowadays, i'm not as interested anymore, too preoccupied thinking about languages and history XD. I think i was a really smart kid, just that i got suspended a lot, and that will probabbly affect me going into universities or careers in the future.

Also, this question's a bit wierd. LITERALLY NEARLY ALL " Childhood Nerds" turn into pensioning nerds, it's one of those things, you simply just don't ever grow out of. A better question would be why are most nerds disporportianately male?

My parents were Trekkies. I was raised by the principles of Spock, in the Church of Trek. By the ways of Tolkien and Herbert, and the almighty Asimov.

I am the ultimate spawn of nerds.

Oh yes, definitely. In fact I would say that I am significantly more social now (though no less nerdy) than I was as a child. As a kid I was in a number of "gifted" programs (which naturally incurred the ire of some of my contemporaries), I never had a problem getting excellent grades, I used to draw maps and pictures of made-up kingdoms and characters, I preferred to be quiet, rarely spoke up in class, and only had a few close friends...I spend more time reading than I did talking to others. Most people thought of me as excessively nerdy as a child, though I have never been and still am not a math/science type of nerd.

Always was and probably always will be. I have many friends who are nerds with me so idc. We go to conventions together and anime club and all that good stuff. I'm social only to people I've gotten to know. Otherwise I'm very shy. But I would say my social skills have improved a lot. (I still consider myself a nerd though)

I'm still a kid right now but I've been an awkward nerd for years and I'm pretty sure I'll still have some nerd in me even when I'm wayyy older໒( •́ u •̀ )
I dunno what your definitions of nerd are, but, for me, it means computer games, anime, and conventions !
But, whatever your definition, it's just one of those things you never quiiiite grow out of.
Which is certainly for the better 'cause nerds are a loootta fun~
