I've wanted to re-learn German. I used to take classes for it in high school but since Germany is somewhere I want to go one day, I would really like to learn it again.

Yes, I've been working on it for about three years, myself. I don't really have any set method for learning it; I've picked up most of what I've learned from music and football. I can understand a lot more than I can speak.

Well, yes, I'm learning German too, everyday a little more, a little better than the day before. I have the advantage that I live in Germany, and have done for more than twenty years, but I will never say that I have stopped learning or that I do not need to learn any more of the language because, as with English, French, Russian and all other languages, there are words we do not know, nuances which change meanings and a thousand other things of interest.

I had to learn standard German when I was younger because I only knew how to speak Hessian .

I'm learning it right now, and it's a pain :/

I love languages, but jeez, I can't write a single sentence without making a syntax error and I need to search half the words when I'm reading a text. I'm in my second year of German, btw.

Yes, that's true. But at least I can use the vocabulary and the grammar I know perfectly without really thinking about it or looking things up.
Not like in English where I make stupid mistakes all the time and mess things up or even write sentences that don't make any sense at all.

I think I will never understand Bavarian. Or hardcore Swabian, although I have been living in an area where people speak Swabian for over 17 years.

And that doesn't even include Swiss, Austrian, or Liechtenstein German!

    Eh, we never stop learning.

I speak Austrian German and it's a very funny language to speak because we understand standard German, but people from Germany usually need some kind of translation (especially when it comes to food)

I want to learn it. And my only reason is because my boyfriend-like person is learning it and I want to be able to talk to him in it.

    Yep.

I've been living in Germany since 1,5 years so it might be useful  I'm not taking any lessons anymore, just learning it from talking to people/reading articles/listening to music. I'm slowly getting there, but I'm still nowhere near fluent.
