I was once not long ago. I worked for a car insurance company. We didn't wear uniforms as it was a call center, so nobody could see what we looked like. Anyways I would dress feminine and lightly and wear short shorts and sweatshirts as a top. It's kinda ghetto fashion, but the air con never worked and it would get hot so I would dress lightly. So many people would start to raise suspicions based on my attire. When we would have lunch breaks, I would start to circulate more with my co-workers. I didn't come out to them as I was never closeted, they asked me if I was homosexual and I just told a few coworkers that yes I was, and I have an alternative lifestyle. One day me and a best friend of mine, she's an older black lady. We were in the break room together before work one morning. I said "Girl please" in a very sassy tone, and eavesdropping, another one of my coworkers, this white guy grunted and gasped and left the room. I remember later day that I was fired for "poor performance" which is bullshit. I was fired because I was gay. Were you ever fired because you were LGBT?
Nobody has been fired for being LGBT? Ok time to sue their asses then. It was AAA (Triple A Auto Club Center), LAX Los Angeles Airport btw. The guy's name was Peter and I think he's now a manager.
It's apparently legal in the more southern states, I don't know much about California's laws but I'd assume it would have discrimination protections considering it's usually ahead of the rest. Here in Georgia it's as simple as "I'm religious, so I don't like you, you're fired." I haven't been fired since I'm avoiding getting a job here altogether, I want a job I can keep and not get kicked to the road for falling in love.
No, but if they did I would sue the hell out of them. Thank God we're protected from discrimination in Illinois. Sorry to hear that happened to you. Did you try to fight their decision after it happened?
I have never been fired, but I was removed from a job because of being trans. I worked for a video company and I was assigned to make a video for a church. They were not happy that I was assigned to the job, so they had me removed from it. It sucks that we live in a world where people judge us on our sexualities and gender sometimes.
I knew that Georgia was a religious state.. didn't think you can actually get fired from a job from being LGBTQ! So glad that I work at a place where there's quite a few LGBTQ working there!
