Or Benjamin Britten, or, if you really want to stretch the definition, Sappho of Lesbos haha. But you're right, it's hard to find out whether the sexualities of musicians we know as bi/gay/etc. today were entirely secret back then or whether they were more-or-less open secrets.
Elton didn't acknowledge even being bisexual until much later, and gay came after that. During his most flamboyant period, he claimed to be straight. I remember hearing that his song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" was basically a reference to his suicide attempt because he couldn't handle being gay. Interesting that I never heard of Jobriath before, I remember watching Midnight Special now and then.
