Hmm, mine was The L Word back when I was living in Germany and I was in middle school at the time. I had no idea at what the heck I was watching but I knew that I liked watching it because I would sneak watch it whenever it comes on SkyTv.

    What about you guys?

I don't think I've watched anything (besides Mean Girls  ) with a character that is explicitly gay.

When I was younger, my mom used to loudly watch TV nearby :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: So I guess that home designer Oprah loved?

It was Sailor Moon and I was 5 yrs old. They had this lesbian couple, Uranus and Neptune who were openly gay, except Americans had to ruin it and censor their relationship by having them be "cousins" instead of actual lovers.

    Klinger, the pseudo-gay pseudo-cross-dresser on M*A*S*H (I'm 49, so I go back aways).

In the mid-70's, there was an episode of The Jeffersons that actually dealt with a transwoman...although they didn't know to call her that. That has always stuck in my mind. And was George's upstairs neighbor *actually* gay, or was George just convinced he was?

Then Jack Tripper, the pseudo-gay lead role of Three's Company in the late 70's.

Soon after that, I stopped watching TV.

I was 11, watching Glee, and I fell so hard for Kurt Hummel. He was beautiful and I clung to him immediately.

Probably the Topp Twins. They're a famous pair of twin comedians in NZ and they're both lesbians. I think I saw them when I was about 10, but before that I was never told anything about queer people or anyone gay shown on tv. But when I was 13 I binged watched queer as folk :icon_bigg

That one jock in ParaNorman. I was quite homophobic at the time, and was thoroughly embarrassed to "witness a gay person."

Probably "Mean Girls." They always said the guy was "too gay to function" but I could never tell if they were joking or not...

    I love those movies.

The only character I can think of is Waylon Smithers. I started watching The Simpsons when I was around 9-10, I don't think it was that big of a deal to myself or my family that he was gay.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Barney's gay brother in How I Met Your Mother, and I suppose NPH himself technically, yet I feel like Mean Girls might have been the first, but I think that was before I knew what gay meant.

For me it was either this, or when I was watching Xena and Gabrielle with my mom. I can't remember which was first.

I know neither are technically confirmed relationships, but as a kid who had no idea what lgbt was, I always saw these characters as more than friends.

    Seconding Klinger from M*A*S*H.

I also once saw a couple of guys kiss in a movie when I was young, but my dad woke up and quickly changed channels, so I don't know what movie or anything.

    Carol and Susan from FRIENDS.

Although two of the slitherines from Sarah Jane Adventures were gay parents to their son - but at the age of 7 I probably was more interested in the actual action to notice it.

I was around 10 when I saw "Big Daddy" with Adam Sandler. I didn't even know there was a gay couple, but I read about it about a year ago . I suppose it was the first time I may have seen a gay couple. My parents may have censored it. My dad always skipped over the part in "The Hunt for the Red October" where Sean Connery killed the Russian officer. Maybe my parents were shocked of the gay kids in "Big Daddy" and didn't make a scene so I didn't really pay attention.

I found a foreign language version of the scene on YouTube.
